What do you think of my knee pain?
I'm a 21 year old girl, and I compete in college cross country/track. Two days ago we were running a 60 minute run at just under 7 minute mile pace on a fairly level gravel trail. With about 10 minutes left my right knee became kind of stiff feeling, and about 30 seconds after we stopped running I straightened my right leg completely and put all my weight on it and immediately I got a sharp shooting pain just below my knee, slightly medial, and at the top of my tibia. It was so painful I actually collapsed, and it is now achy two days later and I still get this crazy pain, but only when straightened with weight. I would say on a scale of 1-10 this pain was about an 8. There was no trauma, no twisting, no awkward steps, I have no history of knee pain, and I have been tested for gait and been put in the 'proper' shoe that I have had multiple pairs of with no problems. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this might be? I don't seem to have any clicking for meniscal tests, and none of the things I'm seeing online really seem to fit, and I can't get an appointment with the trainer for a few more days due to classes, and my schedule.
2 AntwortenInjuriesvor 9 JahrenI have acute bronchitis that is viral, how long should I avoid someone with CML?
I was just told by my doctor that I have this, and my grandmother has CML. I am wondering if I will be able to come home from college over Christmas break. Is it dangerous for her, and if so, how long? I don't want to take any chances, and I completely forgot to ask my doctor. The internet isn't giving any straight ansers.
2 AntwortenCancervor 9 JahrenShould I jump up to the 1500m from the 400m?
I'm a college runner, and I compete in the 400 meters indoor, and the 400 hurdles outdoor. My 4's are usually 57 lows, and my hurdles are 60 point. My coach told me he thought I would be good at the 800, and threw me in one my sophomore year and I ran a 2:20 converted from 2:21 for altitude, but I don't think it's a good indicator of where I am because I had bronchitis at the time. He also decided to put me on the cross country team to prepare me to permanently move up to the 800. I sat out most of the season for an unexpected heart condition where I wasn't allowed to do any sort of training, but I ended up running 23:24 for my first 6k ever (this was my first season of cross country ever in my life) after only three weeks of training, and now my coaches are convinced that if I work really hard I could be an American by my senior year. I also ran a sub 5:15 mile in 8th grade at sea level, but that was over 6 years ago. I'm just looking for advice, or what you think. I've talked to a lot of people, but any opinion will help me make a decision. I'm already a junior, and I don't want to waste eligibility. So is it even somewhat ideal for me to consider this? I've always done sprints, so this whole distance and mid-distance is completely foreign to me. Also, as a side note, my conference usually produces at least four of the top ten finishes at nationals every year, with at least one being top three.
1 AntwortRunningvor 9 JahrenWhat is the best refueling product for a long run?
I run cross country, and my long runs are at least 90 minutes to about 110 minutes, depending on where we are in the season. I am currently returning from a heart condition that I've been diagnosed with, and what it's left me with is feeling tired during my runs. I need something to refuel with and I've tried the strawberry banana Gu stuff, but I can't stand the flavor, but it's the only one I can find that doesn't have caffeine. I can't have anything with caffeine, because it induces pretty bad chest pain for me, and I would like to avoid this, obviously. Any ideas? I can't handle water or anything heavy.
3 AntwortenRunningvor 10 JahrenWhy does the medial side of my ankle hurt when I run?
I have pain in my medial ankle just behind the ankle bone itself. It pretty much goes from my medial malleolus to my achilles. Sometimes the pain seems to wrap around the bottom curvature of my medial malleolus as well, and there is swelling medially just above my arch (more posterior). I notice this pain when I run after about 20 minutes. I don't stop, and by the end of my run it is extremely painful, but within two or three minutes of stopping the pain is completely gone. My ankle just feels wierd. I also notice the pain if I flex my right foot and try to point it medially, and if I wear heels the same area will hurt after I take them off. I also have discomfort towards my achilles when I stand on my toes. This is where the pain originally started and has progressively move to cover the entire are between the ankle bone and just in front of the achilles, but not my achilles itself. Does anybody know what's going on? I'm a college runner and the trainers are at the school and I am from out of state and I am running cross country in the fall to help my 800 time, so it would be nice if my ankle didn't hurt.

4 AntwortenInjuriesvor 1 JahrzehntMy stilettos fit perfectly on my right foot, but they slip off my left foot when I try to walk.?
I can't wear them unless I scrunch my toes on that foot, and that gets old very fast. Why is this happening, and what can I do to stop this? They used to fit perfectly.
3 AntwortenFashion & Accessoriesvor 1 JahrzehntWould I be good at the 800 or should I stay with the 400?
My coach keeps pushing me to run the 800, but I keep saying no, because it intimidates me a lot. I currently run the 400, the 400 hurdles, and the 4x400. I just ran the 600 for the first time ever last week, but I only train for the 4. I'm a girl by the way.
My times are:
400: 59.6
400 Hurdles: 63.4
4x4 split: 57.9
600: 1:41.14
My question is whether or not I should move up to the 8, and what would I expect time wise? I only train for the 400, but if I switched I would obviously change my training.
5 AntwortenRunningvor 1 JahrzehntWhere can I buy a Mountain Dew plush pillow?
I've seen those little pillows that look like the Nerds box, and a Hershey's Chocolate one, but is there anywhere I can get a Mountain Dew one? Or a blanket without the nascar on it.
5 AntwortenToysvor 1 JahrzehntI have blonde hair and blue eyes, so what color should I dye my hair?
I am tan, and I was born with platinum blonde hair, and it darkened to dirty blond. My eyebrows are still platinum, and I have two streaks in the front that didn't change either. It looks kind of like Rogue from X-men. These streaks sometimes come out grayish purple when I dye them, but I want a darker look. My hair is naturally a beachy wavy type.
5 AntwortenHairvor 1 JahrzehntWhy won't my sd card work in my computer?
It's a micro sd card, and it works just fine in my phone. When I put it into the adapter for the port on my dell, the port lights up and knows it's there, but the computer doesn't show it. I don't think it's the adapter, because when I put in a regular sd card I have the same problem. What's going on?

1 AntwortInjuriesvor 1 JahrzehntWhat's going on with my quad?
I'm a sprinter, and back in February of my senior year I strained both of my quads. It wasn't an official diagnosis, but that's what the trainer/coaches said. My left quad instantly stopped hurting, but my right one got worse. I finished the season, and took three months off before starting DII practices. Now it's gotten really wierd. I did 150 m uphill sprints, and it severely cramped with pain, but not until the 11th one. Today we were doing 300 m repeats at a 44 pace, and I was fine when I ran a 41, but I ran a 43 and it hurt like crazy. It doesn't give any warning either. The pain is at the top of my thigh, and in the middle, and hurts when I extend it back, but I have full flexibility. Does anyone else have this problem? It seems like no matter what I do, or what the doctors do it doesn't go away.
1 AntwortRunningvor 1 JahrzehntI have an athletic build. How can I become less bulky?
I'm 5'5" and 124 lbs. I run college track, but all the extra training has made my muscles so much bulkier than they were before. Is there any way I can take them in a little bit without losing strength?
4 AntwortenDiet & Fitnessvor 1 JahrzehntShould I be worried about my lymph node?
I have a lymph node on the right side of my neck between my jaw and ear that is swollen. I know that this is most likely due to infection, but my concern is with the frequency. It swells up, not a huge size but noticeable, and with minor pain about every six weeks. It's like clockwork, and usually lasts four to five days. It is also the only one that swells. Is it weird that this happens kind of like a cycle?
1 AntwortInfectious Diseasesvor 1 JahrzehntWhat's causing my lymph node to swell up?
I have a small pea-sized lymph node just below my right ear that swells up about once a month, sometimes more. It's always the same one, and it's been about two years, and I'm curios as to what is causing it.
2 AntwortenOther - Healthvor 1 JahrzehntWhat are the best dryland workouts for high school pre-season swim?
My coach has started pre-season about 2 months before the season starts in November. Here's the thing: most of the people on our team aren't very athletic, and the coach caters to them. I want more of a workout so I can start the season in shape, especially since other local high school teams are very competitive. I just want some variety, because the same old workouts get so boring. I am willing to try anything.
