People fill one of the roles temporarily as the conversation needs each particular type of contribution to move forward. Each role takes into account the variety of viewpoints already expressed, incorporating much of the information that has been suspended during the dialogue.

The roles are dynamic, the person who opposed in one instance may move in another or bystand later on. All four roles are necessary. Without a move, there is no direction. Without the follow there is no momentum. Without the opposition, there is no critical thinking and correction, and without the bystanders, deadlocks persist and there is no breakthrough to new understanding.

I loved the book and the movie still feel bad that I never got to see the last Harry Potter movie.

I keep noticing a few more gray hairs and I usally get my highlights.

And be happy that I do not go to concerts anymore. There are too many college kids at concerts.

Last year, a good friend of mine had a misunderstanding with me. I reacted badly one night in a text message. I think I most likely know more about her housemate. I mentioned to her that her housemate was welcome to my birthday party. I questioned why her housemate is never at any of my parties. What would it look like if I had responded instead of reacting?

I was reading in Natural Awakenings an article on Dish Up Some Pecan Pie

I was reading about skills a Mentor. This woke me up... 4. Space, learning and integration

A mentor creates a space for listening and for helping the person to integrate the learning into their lives. A mentor becomes like an "inner voice" ­ we borrow the mentor for this guiding voice while we search to find and express our own voice.

5. Safe Space

Unconditional acceptance is a key ingredient for establishing trust and a safe space. When one experiences unconditional acceptance and a sense of belonging, one is able to more clearly reveal and be themselves. Accepting others for who they are, without apology or explanation, is therefore an essential aspect of mentoring. With total acceptance, one feels trusted and known, and is able to take great risks. In a safe space, nothing is taboo.
