Is that about the long and short of Mr. Tebow's shame? Care to comment on the game from a religious perspective?

It's another beautiful weekend and there's much to do! What are your plans while others are wasting their time "praying" to an invisible, silent, angry, flying god and his talking snake?

Those who claim to "believe" in religion have a history of making outrageous claims about their god and their religion. Which qualifies as the most over-the-top, crazy thing you've ever heard one of them say?

You've heard of how the Crusaders used sword-point to get Muslims to recant their religion. And the early Catholics used all sorts of torture devices to gain converts and to "control" those who questioned their authority. What could they do to get you to "believe"?

This very question occupied religious "thinkers" for many, many years. At the same time they were actively blocking scientific advances, condemning Galileo, and burning witches at the stake. So now it's your turn to answer the question before they decide to burn atheists at the stake.

"We exist to bear witness.

We had to be.

The infinite needs us to see it.

Without the perceiver, the perceived does not exist.

That gives us leverage.

Since everybody, especially those religionists whom you'd think would know better than to "believe" in the religion of others, seems to be hyperventilating about the End of the World '"prediction" in the Mayan calendar, I thought this might be of interest, too...

(Or, as Monty Python's Flying Circus always said: "And now for something completely different...")

Prayer for friends and family doesn't count, nor does tithing. Have you done anything on your own (not related to any religion and away from those buildings) that helped your community in some direct way? Volunteering? Becoming a school aide? Caring for children in a co-op daycare? Visiting the elderly in nursing homes? Anything?

Why did you do it or why not?

Would you rather crash your car into a sperm bank or fly a helicopter into a ________________?

(This question is intended only to amuse and I hope everybody will try to outdo each other in the funny. My first response was to say "fly a helicopter into a sperm whale"...)

Imagine, if you will, the singing of the national anthem... or church services... You can only choose one of the scenarios outlined...

Admittedly, this has nothing to do with religion and spirituality, except perhaps in the most existential way. But it should make you ponder for a moment or two...

And why's that?

I know that "disapproving fundamentalist" is an oxymoron, but you must admit this is an INTERESTING question that deserves some thought and an explanation for your choice. Please.

I sneaked in the "spiritually speaking" only as an attention-getting device. I hope you can forgive me.

But you have to admit the question is interesting.... (hint, hint).
