Should I go back to the dentist?
Hi, I am currently experiencing a constant throbbing pain in one of my bottom front teeth that seems to be aggravated whenever I eat. I am really worried it is irreversible pulpitis but when I went to the dentist yesterday, during which he did an X-ray he said he couldn't see a problem with it. I am really scared he might have missed it or that it is something worse. My tooth has calculus build up behind it and a little plaque on the front but I am booking a hygienist appointment soon. Do you think I am just being paranoid, or would you recommend that I go back and see him again?
1 AntwortDentalvor 5 JahrenWhat should I do while I wait for my dentist?
Hi, I am currently experiencing constant throbbing pain in one or two (I can't really tell) of my bottom front teeth and I am really scared it could be something serious like irreversible pulpitis. There has a dull throb for about two weeks now that lasts all day. It tends to be quite mild in the morning, and is lessened slightly when I brush my teeth, but after I've eaten it tends to be alot worse. I'm really scared they won't be able to save the tooth as there is a little plaque on the front of the tooth and some calculus build up on the back and my gums are quite red and swollen. I have booked a dentist appointment (first time going as I suffer from severe anxiety) but it is a whole month away and I have no money to go private for an emergency appointment. I'm really scared that it is going to get worse, does anyone know of anything I could do to ensure it doesn't (or at least alleviate it somewhat?
3 AntwortenDentalvor 5 JahrenCan a replace a tooth in the same appointment?
Hi I am about to go for my first dental appointment and I have severe calculus build up on four of my bottom teeth. If I went and they were to remove it but my tooth fell out (as it is a little loose) would they be able to give me a temporary solution the same day.
P.S What if I were to pay for it?
2 AntwortenDentalvor 6 JahrenWill a dentist be able to help me?
Hi, I am really worried about my teeth cause they are quite bad. My molars and premolars aren't too bad, but my front teeth have plaque lining the gumline and I there is calculus build up behind four of my bottom teeth. My front teeth have quite red gums and they bleed occasionally. I am 17 years old and I want to get it sorted but I am scared they will take my teeth out, especially as one of my front teeth has started to throb incessantly, which doesn't normally happen. I know this is bad, so I don't really care if you judge me; I do try to clean my teeth properly. The problem is that my mum, after a bad dentist experience when she was a young child and a subsequent fear of the dentist (which I don't blame her for cause it was pretty bad) never took me to the dentist as a child and I have never really thought that flossing was important. I have tried once I got older though, but now I am too afraid to as I am worried I will rip my teeth out. I am trying to get my first dentist appointment booked asap but I'm really scared about it (which isn't helped by the fact that I have been suffering from anxiety since a bad exam experience 2 years ago) I am at my wits end and to be honest, even-though I know I will probably suffer with my anxiety I don't care. Is there anyone who thinks a dentist could save my teeth without me having to have dentures (P.S. if worst came to worse I could most likely afford at least 8 of my teeth to be replaced by implants if it was necessary)
3 AntwortenDentalvor 6 JahrenIs my diet enough to lose weight?
I was wondering if what I was eating at the moment was alright as I really would like to lose weight (preferably about 2-3 stone). This is my diet at the moment (exercise is a bit tricky at the moment as I am very busy with a-level work, work etc)
Breakfast - 60g cereal with 100ml semi skimmed milk and half a teaspoon of sweetener + banana (approx 377kcal)
Lunch - Ham salad sandwich with apple and rice cake (approx 390kcal)
Breakfast - 60g cereal with 100ml semi skimmed milk and half a teaspoon of sweetener + slice of wholemeal bread and butter (approx 415kcal)
I do not snack in-between meals and I only drink water so the average total is about 1200kcal per day. Would I be able to lose weight with this diet and is there any changes I could make. (note: I can't eat too many nuts as they make me ill)
Any feedback would be appreciated :)
10 AntwortenDiet & Fitnessvor 6 JahrenIs this anxiety?
This probably sounds ridiculous, but I really cannot understand how I have been feeling lately. Recently, I cannot go anywhere without feeling extremely worried that something will happen, more specifically something that will lead me to feel either ill or embarrassed. On a mental level, I cannot concentrate on anything when this happens and my thoughts will constantly be full of "what if" scenarios. Physically, I cannot be in one of these situations without feeling extremely sick (to the point at which I feel I am literally going to vomit even-though I had not eaten anything), my heart to beat faster than usual (on some occasion), followed by hot flushes and a severe throbbing headache. I really don't know what to do about this as I seem to get this everyday, especially at school, and it only goes away (and this doesn't always work) when I have something to distract me. I am really worried as I have mock exams for my a-levels in a few weeks and I cannot afford to feel like this during them. Any help is greatly appreciated as I would love to find out what is causing this.
P.S. I don't know if this is related but for the past few weeks I have been feeling extremely down. I have literally no motivation for anything, including my hobbies and schoolwork, and anything that I previously found enjoyable just seems joyless and I feel as if there is no point in me trying to achieve what I want to later in life.

I got 8A*s at GCSE (Maths, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Geography, French, Art) and three A's (English Literature, Physics), as well as an A in GCSE Statistics which I completed a year early. I am taking Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths at A-level and am predicated AAAA at AS (and am planning on continuing all of them to A2) If I were to get these grades would there be any chance of me getting in if I wanted to study Biological Sciences, Bio-medicine or Biochemistry?

I am currently in year 11 and in my mock exams I achieved 10A*s and 1A, without much revision, however in my Mensa IQ test I only achieved 121. Is it possible that, even if I were to replicate these grades in my actual GCSE's and hopefully A-levels that I would be hindered at the application stage, especially for uni's such as Oxbridge, and later on in life because of my lower IQ? (especially as I want to go into science)
3 AntwortenStandards & Testingvor 7 JahrenAre these good A-level choices?
I am currently in year 11 and am in the process of deciding on my A-level choices. I am doing reasonably well as regards to my grades and I would be enthralled at the prospect of going (hopefully) to a Russel Group University. I would like to follow a career in the area of the life sciences and I have personally devised two optional A-level paths I would possibly pursue. The first is Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Further Maths; and the second is Maths, Biology, Chemistry, History. Would either of these paths be applicable to such a prestigious university and if so, which would be the most beneficial?

I am in yr 11 and I was wondering, if I got the grades predicted, would these be good options for a Russel Group University, preferably one that offers a microbiology degree such as the Imperial College, London.
I am doing:
English Language - predicted A*
English Literature - predicted A*
Maths - predicted A
Biology, Chemistry, Physics - all predicted A*'s
R:E - predicted A*
Statistics - completed in yr 10 and got an A
History - predicted A*
Geography - predicted A*
French - predicted A*
Art - predicted A/A*
I am also wanting to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and either Maths, English Language or Statistics. Would these be good A-Level choices for a microbiology degree?

Last week end I went on my practice Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition and developed a very large blister, which wrapped itself around my little toe and under the nail. Over the last few days my toe has been quite painful as the blister has caused my nail to start to come away, due to the healing of the blister. At the moment, the skin from the blister is coming away attached to the nail. The nail is dead and I can see the nail bed underneath, but it is is still attached at the bottom. I have my official expedition this week and I am really worried about how this will be affected. Do you know of any ways I can protect the nail in order to prevent pain, as wearing any shoes at the moment is painful while walking, and prevent further damage as it is unlikely to heal in time.

1 AntwortPrimary & Secondary Educationvor 8 JahrenHow else could I revise for stats?!?
I have my GCSE higher statistics exam in three weeks and I need help on other methods of revision. As of next Monday (I am unable to revise at the moment) I will be completing every question in my revision book (3 topics per night), as well as completing two or three past papers and then going through weaker topics afterwards. There are some topics I am unsure of so, if this does not make it sink in, are there any other ways of revising for this exam. Also, are there any useful stats revision websites that would be beneficial to this?

I have a 13 year old male green cheeked conure parrot, who has never been bred before. He lives on his own and lately has been exhibiting nesting behavior. From many of the websites I have looked at it seems the females are the ones who create the nest in this species so I was wondering whether or not they actually nest or if he has been wrongly sexed.
2 AntwortenBirdsvor 8 JahrenWhy is eating meat viewed as being so wrong?
My view:
Now, I am a person who is all for animal rights, and would would do anything to stop an animal being treated cruelly, but after viewing the PETA article on meat eating, I was just curious just why it is viewed as being so wrong. Now, I feel that yes, using unethical slaughtering methods, chemicals and storage facilities should be banned, and that organic, free range farming should be brought in, but I am not entirely against eating meat, as people say that it is wrong and that humans exploit their power over the animals, but, animals, such as the larger predators, do the same and kill and eat animals to survive, and if they went without meat they would die. They have done this for thousands of years, but as soon as humans do it, it is suddenly so wrong. People feel that as humans, just because we have the intelligence to stop (although I doubt if you asked a lion with the same intelligence as us they would give in to the veggies), we should try to protect animals from this fate, but do not stop any other animals from doing it. In reality, these people are just picking and choosing which animals can live or die, just because these are the ones they eat, and that doesn't sound like the actions of a person totally for the protection of cruelty to animals. Really, if you are going to use the argument that it is cruel to animals, you would really have to stop ANY animals being killed for food and that would be impossible and cruel to the carnivores who depend on meat.

Hi,
I have a french speaking exam on Monday that goes towards my GCSE and I do not know how I am going to remember it. We have to prepare a four paragraphed presentation on our school, as well as fifteen prepared questions that she may answer. I have learnt the questions and the presentation roughly but I keep missing the odd word or phrase which makes me lose my concentration, causing me to panic and need to start over. I also do not sound at all spontaneous and keep stuttering and pausing. I find the writing and reading aspects of French quite easy, but the speaking totally confuses me.
Does anyone have any useful tips or pieces of advice that I could use to try and better remember my french or how to say it better? 10 points for best advice.
