Sometimes I can't spell and I'm old as hell now.
Plot devices to avoid?
Throw some out there. It's always interesting to see what people have to say about this sort of thing...
Or maybe it's just me, but oh well, GO!
4 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 10 JahrenMost annoying thing you find in Fanfictions?
Yeah. I don't ask a lot of serious questions. Sorry. Just like to mix some fun into the serious.
So what do you hate reading in Fanfiction?
20 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 10 JahrenWeird Things That Writers Do?
I'm just curious about things writers do...I don't mean professional or anything like that, I just mean in general, someone who loves to write.
But anyhow, Weird habits you have as a writer.....
....And GO
15 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 10 JahrenHeavy music with no vocals?
See the thing is, I love the way metal, hardcore, j-rock, etc sounds, but I don't like vocals (not really in any type of music). Does anyone happen to know of any songs that are "loud" but have no vocals? I would love to find them myself but I can't since my computer doesn't have sound at the moment, so I would have to put my trust in people here for suggestions (probably not the smartest idea)
1 AntwortOther - Musicvor 1 JahrzehntNever in a million years thought I'd be on here asking about names...?
Yeah, I hate it, I don't like it when people get on here to ask for names, but I kind of understand why they do it now.
I have a character I can't quite find the right name for. She's born in the 90's, likes art, but is conflicted. Personality-wise she's a little shy, values her relationships with friends greatly, goes out of her way to try and keep people happy, but is a little head strong and won't budge from an opinion once she develops it.
Vague I know, but to go fully into a persons personality would use up the limited amount of words allowed. So, anyone got a good name?
Please and thank you in advance
8 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntQuestion for fun, Feeling under appreciated?
Every now and then I'll ask a question unrelated to B&A. They're for fun, for easy points, and a break from the "I need help" questions.
My question today deals with the "I need help"/ "What should I do" questions. Feel free to use personal experience, things that you have witnessed, or just your opinion on the matter.
To the question. Have you ever been answering a question and you are sure you've done a good job offering up advice to the person asking (or saw an answer you thought was perfect for the question)?
But the asker has either started a fight with the you/person via 'add detail' or out right told them not to answer if they weren't going to help (i.e.- answer saying what they wanted to hear)?
(mainly pointing towards people that ask for help on their own stories.)
It obvious that some of the young people here need to be taken down a notch; thinking their writing is flawless and when someone offers up a piece of advice that isn't "omg that was wonderful I want to read more" they get offended.
This doesn't go for all the young writers, just some of them, I'm not making a generalized statement. Promise.
3 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntQuestion for fun. Vent-away?
I’ve “asked” a few of these types of things just to allow the people on books&authors to vent or earn points easily.
So let me begin. This morning I answered the question of someone looking for, what I would assume to be relatively intelligent books to read; something that really gives you goose bumps. He/she worded the question a little pretentiously, but it was safe to assume they were asking for book suggestions for themselves.
Then these two schmoo come out of nowhere and tell the person asking the question basically that their question is stupid, all because of the way it was worded. I’m sure if you look in my answers you’ll have a better understanding of what it is exactly I’m talking about.
But to ask my question. Don’t you “love” it when an answerer over complicates your question? or tries to make you seem like a schmuck? (Feel free to share your experiences.)
5 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntJust fun little Questions. Have fun.?
Have you ever lost your inspiration or passion for writing? Did you find it again?
Do you prefer to be the writer or the reader?
What's your favorite book series?
Idk how any of you feel about these, but I thought it would be a good idea to post a random bunch of questions. Since most questions I see are asking for some type of help (which isn't a bed thing) I figured it would nice to have a break from that.
Have fun. =D
7 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat's your Favorite part?
Writing wise, what would your favorite part of writing be? I know we all must have a part we enjoy the most, and for the hell of it, the least.
Just a question for fun to get away from the "Hows my story" and "What do you think about twilight" things. Have fun.
5 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntWhat do you have the most trouble with?
When you're writing, what do you have the most trouble doing? The start? the middle? the end?
I'm curious to know what people struggle the most with when trying to write.
8 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntAnyone Else slightly irritated by this?
This is only slightly book related so I apologize for spamming if that's what you'd consider this. But honestly I need to know.
Is anyone else as annoyed as I am about these people that compare every little detail to twilight. Even the twilight haters seem to do it. Which would inevitably remove a large amount of literature from their list of things to read.
I just got done reading a question where a person was asking for super powers that were not the generic super speed and psychic abilities (two powers that have been found in multiple Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, etc comics, and dozens of books). Someone automatically brought up the ever aggravating "don't make it like twilight" (phrased a bit differently though).
So back to the Question. Has this happened to you even when your question or intentions had nothing to do with vampires? Are you irritated by it?

11 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntMusic as inspiration...?
lol that's not the question.
anyhow, the mood of my writing is highly influenced by music or lack there of. So I was wondering if anyone else was influenced the same, and what are some good, angry, dark songs to write too?.
I have plenty of happy cheerful, love songs and such. I and I have a few songs about being sad (like "The Tide"- The SpillCanvas) but not the kind of extreme I'm looking for...
I figured this would sort of fit here since I don't know many people that don't write and would know what I'm talking about....And I am so sorry if that didn't make any sense.
2 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntI just thought of something?
People on here are always preaching "Show don't tell" to others that are asking for advice and writing tips. But no one ever explains to the person what it means.
Which brings me to my real question. What does a person mean when they say "Show don't Tell?"
3 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntCan someone please help me figure out what's wrong with this?
My heart thundered behind my ribs as I pulled up to my house. Mom and Dad had called me home an hour before, telling me we were having an emergency family meeting. We never had family meetings, not that I knew of, and if we did I was certainly never invited. So, I had no idea what to expect when I got to the door but it certainly wasn’t the silence that followed with opening it.
Like a person standing on trial all eyes turned to me. “I’m home,” I said as I shut the door. My heart was still drumming heavily in my chest, pumping blood and oxygen to my muscles as my body prepared itself for a ‘flight or fight’ response.
I know, I know, I know, something is completely wrong with this and I was avoiding posting it on here cause it annoys me when other people do it. But it's going to drive me nuts knowing something is off, but I can't figure it out.
Anyhow, help is appreciated.
2 AntwortenBooks & Authorsvor 1 JahrzehntHow can I balance Dialogue and Description better?
I like to write and I love really detailed descriptions. But I think I have a problem with "telling" instead of "showing" and I'm worried about getting stuck in dialogue. How much dialogue is too much? or to little?
I understand that it will change between writers, but is there an amount I can aim for until I have the details figured out?
(didn't mean to ask so many questions, my oops)
