  • Bacteria in human stomach?

Are there any species of bacteria that ONLY live in the human stomach? Well, any part of the human anatomy, really. But I'm after something that EXCLUSIVELY lives in the human body.

  • Here's one about Islam...?

OK, so, Christians like to throw verses such as this one at unbelievers: "Because the god of this world has made blind the minds of those who have not faith, so that the light of the good news of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, might not be shining on them." - 2 Corinthians 4:4

I would like to know whether the Q'uran (did I get the apostrophe in the right place?) has anything similar to say about people who reject Islam. My guess would be that it does, but I don't know for certain.

  • Will creationists ever be honest...?

...and admit that their objection to evolution is purely religious? We all know - as do they - that they don't have a scientific leg to stand on.

  • Just to be different, any other New Zealanders here?

We have our own election tomorrow. So, what result are you hoping for? Me, I'm going to split my vote between Labour (candidate) and Green (party) in hopes of a Labour/Green coalition.

(Yeah, well, some of us need a break from the US election.)

  • Seriously, how contemptible is this?

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/04/ob...

Isn't it disgusting that something like this could happen in a country that prides itself on being the champion of freedom and democracy?

By the same token, though, anyone stupid enough to fall for something like that probably deserves not to vote...

But even so, do you not find this utterly vile?

  • What's so shagging special about the King James Bible?

Seriously, how is it any better than a modern translation?

  • Ogden Nash poem about children?

Hallo. Does anyone know of the poem by Ogden Nash in which he compares children who are just learning to walk with drunks? Can you point me in its direction?

    Cheers all :)

  • Best YouTube Drama so far?

What would you say has been the most entertaining shitfight on YouTube so far?

Personally, I really enjoyed the recent VenomFangX/Thunderf00t fun and games. That was just beautiful.

Are there any others that you know of?

  • How long does it take to process a video?

I uploaded a four minute video an hour and fifty minutes ago. It still seems to be in processing hell.

What in the name of arse is going on here?

  • What is the most despicable non-violent crime?

And if you could state your religious affiliation with your answer, that'd be grand.

I'll start the ball rolling - I'm an atheist and I think perjury is the worst of the non-violent crimes.

  • Have you heard of Joel's Army?

Their existence came to my attention about twenty minutes ago, so I know next to nothing about them. So, can anyone tell me anything about them?

Who the hell is Joel, for starters?

Are they a cult we can laugh at, or a cult we need to worry about?

  • On the subject of speciation?

How does speciation happen in organisms that reproduce asexually? At what point is another species said to have emerged? I've never understood this.

  • Problem with my landlord's cat?

Hallo. My landlord's cat has recently developed some exciting new lavatory habits. It ducks under the steps and defecates right under my front door. It's just out of my reach, so I can't get in there with rubber gloves to clean it up.

There's a very strong smell of catshit around the door, which assaults the nostrils of anyone coming up the path.

How do I get the little bastard to stop?

  • Christians, do you think it's at all possible...?

...that science, including the Big Bang and evolution, is something God wanted us to figure out for ourselves?

    Just a thought.

  • Should creationists be allowed on juries?

I mean, let's face it, their standard of evidence is...I'm trying to think of a more polite word than "warped". As soon as I do, I'll pop back and edit this question.

But you know what I mean, right? If their attitude to court proceedings was the same as their attitude to science - start with a conclusion, ignore evidence that doesn't support it - then if they're allowed on a jury, grievous injustice is pretty much guaranteed.

    What say you?

  • What specifically is it about rock music that's so evil?

Is it the fact that some of the instruments require electricity to work? If so, where's the scriptural evidence of God objecting to electrified instruments? Is he alright with a synthesizer? A theremin? An electric violin?

Is it the beat? Does God have a problem with 4/4 time? That being the tempo used in most (but not all) rock music. And it's used in every other genre too.

I get the strong feeling that when Christian authorities say "God hates this music" what they mean is "I hate this music".

What they're really doing is suppressing music that has life, heart, passion, and in so doing they stifle the human soul. What kind of a God would want that?

Since there are no Biblical rules for what kind of music may and may not be used to worship God, I feel I have to conclude that these authority figures are contravening Matthew 15:9 and teaching as doctrine the commandments of men. Not that that surprises me, of course.

    Music evolves. Get over it.

What say you? Have I missed something? Is there a genuine reason to be opposed to electrified music that I just haven't thought of? Can the anti-rock stance be backed up?

  • Eye witnesses to Biblical events?

Where are these alleged eye witnesses? Are there any outside of the Bible? There'd need to be for that particular defense to have any worth, wouldn't there?

  • Creationists: So, evolution is a lie, huh?

Would anyone care to try and prove that? Anyone got any evidence that evolution is not merely incorrect, but a deliberate lie? Cos I think you're on pretty shaky ground here. I know it's fun for you to constantly repeat the mantra "evolution is a lie" ad nauseam, but do bear in mind that you represent the God who allegedly said "thou shalt not bear false witness". You claim that this commandment came straight from the mouth of the all-powerful creator of the universe. So one would expect you to take it a little more seriously.

If you accuse someone of lying, which is a deliberate action, when they're at worst merely factually incorrect, you are bearing false witness.

So, will you now provide evidence that evolution is a deliberate lie, or will you humbly retract the accusation?
