  • Shorten or Lengthen Basic training/boot camp?

I can really only take it in perspective as an Airman and going through AF BMT, but I'm assuming Marines, Navy, and Army are pretty similar methods.

So, AF BMT it's 8.5 weeks.

Week 0-5 is drill mashed into your skulls until you master it, you do some SABC, SERE, and CBRN training. Practice hand to hand combat and rifle drills, basic customs and courtesies, PT everyday, uniform wear and UCMJ and so forth. Just your basics to make you an Airman in the modern Air Force.

    So that's week 0-5.

  • USMC or Army personnel did having extremely strict supervisors/leadership ever make you scared to approach them on matters?

Just curious. Saw a few videos of just Marines and Soldiers getting absolutely sh*t on that were actually operational and not just in training over small things. Like failure to acknowledge a SNCO walking down the road or something minor.

Obviously being in the military standards of way different for civilians and it's not just any regular job, but I feel like it sets a bad impression on new guys that their leadership are just assh*les...

In the Air Force, if we make a mistake, we have a 1 on 1 with out direct supervisor, and if it continues it's paperwork, and I've rarely seen it go pass paperwork because you get treated like an adult and not a little kid and screamed at for a mistake you made.

I don't know, just seems like what some branches do as punishment isn't the best, but hopefully someone can give me a good response besides, 'The Air Force is just full of pus*ies that's why.'

  • Anyone else experience gender favoritism in their units?

I work the flightline, 12 hour shifts, and I see A LOT of gender favoritism out there than you'd expect. Females tend to leave earlier 6-8 hours into shift they're gone. No matter how hard they screw up out there the don't get into any trouble because they're just 'learning', and whenever they get cold or something gets to hard for them they just complain, and everyone bows down and gives them a break.

On the other hand, females tend to get BTZ more often because they get more volunteer work down and organize more events because of all the time they have off. They're also expected 1 month per CDC volume when they have 8+ hours of doing nothing at work and I'm expected 1 month per volume working 12+ hour shifts of actual working. Do a lot of you guys see this, and does anyone know why this is? I feel with all the gender equality going on it's not actually showing.

Not going on a rant, just actually giving examples I see within my unit.

  • How to properly fill out address for military dorms?

Trying to buy stuff off amazon, and living in military dorms. It's kinda confusing on the address lines. For example it's

123 Street Road then for my building, and actual PO box it's like 11-111A for my building, and room number that's listed on my PO box.

What I'm confused about is to I make it all one address line or do I put the address line like-

    123 Street Road

    11-111A

    12345 (ZipCode) Base

  • Do Wal-Marts sell fishing licenses in Virginia, and how much are they?

I'm trying to get a fishing license for me and my girlfriend, we're just going to go fish near the James River, and the Chesapeake Bay.

She's 16, and I'm 17, also is ti even worth it to buy a pass? I heard the never check, and I've gone finishing hundreds of times with my father, and never once have I've been checked. We're just going for an 2-3 hour catch and release. Thanks.

  • Is the U.S Coast Guard part of the DHS or DOD?

It seems like they'd fit more into DHS since they aren't really for national security. But they do stop drug trafficking and pirates.

  • If you earned the rank of E-3 before AF BMT, would you receive the pay of an E-1 or E-3 while at BMT?

I'm in my 3rd year of AFJROTC and once I enlist, I'll be able to be promoted to E-3. But, I've been told that you wouldn't actually start receiving the pay of an E-3 till your graduation of tech school is that true?

  • If you live on base in the AF barracks, would you need to go to a different facility to shower/bathroom?

I was at Langley, AFB, and we went inside some of the dorms there, and every single last one of them was just a bed, desk and microwave. I didn't see a single bathroom or a single shower anywhere. Is there a different place you go to if you need to take a dump or shower?

  • College ROTC & acceptance questions?

I was wondering if you could take ROTC in college just by selecting it or if you had to be chosen. Like when I'm selecting my courses would I be able to put down ROTC? Or would I have to send in an application and hope to get picked if I don't get a scholarship?

I wanted to get a degree in criminal justice and minor in military science and hopefully become a special investigation officer or an intelligence officer.

I want to attend a Army or Air Force ROTC college but I'm not so sure if my grades will allow me to get a scholarship. I have a 3.5GPA I'm not taking any AP or Honors and I play soccer and really the only leadership position I hold is Corps Commander at my AFJROTC high school. But I have been in the local newspaper and the news for my work at volunteering and donating that was acknowledged. I'm not sure if that'll help.. Also, I haven't been offically tested but I can do 30 push ups in a minute, 60 sit ups in a minute and can run 1.5 miles in under 9 minutes and I can do about 6-8 pull ups. But what do you think my chance of getting a scholarship would be

  • AP classes and joining one of the U.S service academies?

Suppose you took AP English in high school and received all the credits for it. Would you still need to take that class if you attended one of the service academies? Also if you took multiple AP courses, could you pretty much get out of having to take classes for that semester you attended the academy?

  • Microwaving bacon problem?

I've tried and failed many times at microwaving bacon and it always fails. My parents do it perfectly nice and crispy every time, but when I do it I get a semi-burnt half pink half brownish black color looking bacon that's hard to the touch. The way they taught me was: For each slice of bacon = 1 minute in the microwave, and put the bacon between two paper towels and some newspaper underneath to catch any grease. But when I do that, I get the same crappy bacon. Does anyone have any tips on how to microwave the perfect bacon?

  • If you're trying to get a high security clearance job, what kind of background checks do they do on you?

    Like for the Air Force.

Do they only check you? Or do they check your entire extended families background as well?

  • If you break a bone while in military service, does wearing a cast go against uniform regulations?

Suppose you broke your leg and you required a full leg cast, would you be allowed to wear your uniform?

Also would you be discharged if you broke a leg or something that rendered you unable to preform your job?

  • In the Air Force and Coast Guard, are you allowed to untuck your shirts?

I was going to the mall with some friends and I noticed a group of 3 going into the food court and they all had their shirts untucked. I couldn't tell the branch since Air Force and Coast Guard kind of have the same uniforms and they pasted by us pretty fast. But I have seen videos of Airmen women doing videos about the Air Force that have their shirts untucked as well. Isn't there some type of regulation on that? Or do they don't mind if you tuck them or not?

  • Do you think the Navy Seal team that helped design Medal of Honor punishment was too strict?

I know it's been a while since this all happened, but what's your opinion on it?

I think it was Seal Team VI. One of the most elite group of men we have for the U.S Military. They put their lives on the line on daily basis and they leaked a little bit of information and now none of them can receive a pay grade increase, and they lost pay for 2 months. Do you think we did right with this? I know it's just a little slap on the wrist since they call could face espionage but seriously.. What do you think?

  • I heard the two items in the American flag truck was the bullet and the match. Why is that?

Some people have told me there is actually three. But i'm not sure. But anyways what is the purpose of these items? The only thing I could think of was to kill yourself and burn the flag. Is this true and where did this come from?

Also if it is for burning the flag. Is that disrespectful or an heroic act that you saved the flag from the enemy?

  • Is ADD and ADHD a real diesase or do kids and adults just fake it to get away with getting in trouble?

No offence to anyone that "has" it. But I never understood it. Kids in my school throw stuff in class and talk back to the teacher and when the teacher gets mad they say "sorry my ADHD is acting up I need to go to the nurse." Then they're out of class for about a hour and come back sleepy. I watched a documentary on it and the doctors all said there's no way to test if you have it but if you show some certain symptoms and yep you have it. Even some kids at my school fake it and they sell the drugs they get from it at my school.

What's your opinion is it real or not?
