  • Death metal growls and clean vocals (female).?

I'm female 22 year old alto, around half a year ago I joined my school's choir and really improved my voice (my highest note is now a C 6, and when I first joined it was an F5), and before that I always sung for fun in the shower and following my favorite singers. I always wanted to learn death metal growls, but never had much success until recently (two months ago), that I really put my head into it and noticed a huge improvement in volume and quality of the sound. I rarely do it without warming up (usually because I want to show someone or a song that i like came up and i want to sing along and I end up feeling like crap), I always warm up and don't feel any sort of pain and just like singing I use my diaphragm, i'm also happy to say that my high notes have not suffered but.... the ones that are being affected a lot are my low notes. Before I started to growl I was able to hit really low notes, around the C an octave lower than middle C, now I can barely hit the F, As I start to go lower my voice does the growl and it's really annoying because before that didn't use to happen. I know that Growling is not the healthiest type of singing, and I will get a lot of advice on just quitting, but I'm actually really into metal and would like to keep on doing them, so are there any exercises or things I can do to keep my clean low notes? Thank you.

  • A song i really use to like but i can't remember the artist or the band?

Some months ago, i would say around 4 or 5 i stumbled upon this video, and i remember liking it a lot, the video showed the band playing in the countryside, they had that sort of Hard Rock alternative sound, sounded a bit like Emery. The members of the band had longish hair, sort of the stereotypical emo hair cut (not spiky or with the hair all over the face, just a bit long). Oh, and the vocalist had the most amazing beautiful eyes i've seen in my life, i'm sure they were either blue or green. I remember googling the band, and i think they were British, but i'm not 100% sure about that.

If you don't know the name of the song, but know artist that match the description then please list them as well.

    Thanks you in advance.

  • somehow related to music, what are you wearing?

ok so, do you think your taste in music affects the way you dress and live your life?

I'm wearing a Metallica shirt, black pants, and all black converse in terrible condition. my backpack is a converse Messenger bag with a Nirvana patch, and three buttons (a Rolling Stones button, a Nirvana button, and a button that says "you're funny, but looks aren't everything")

Do you think that being a fan of Rock music affects the way you dress and your perspective towards live?

  • Home made tattoo, is it safe?

I really want a tattoo, but since i'm only 17 there's no way i'm gonna get one done with a pro.

Today i met this guy who offered to make me a tattoo, for free if i lend him my iPod or one day, and even if i didn't do it he still offered to make me one, but smaller.

It's really simple, and he says that he is very clean about it. And that all of his needles new and that they're clean.

I've always wanted to get one, but i'm really scared of getting HIV, that's probably my biggest fear.

so, is it safe or not?

  • Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

I popped 2 violin strings, and since i'm so bored, i decided to pick up my guitar.

The first time that i tried to learn anything on it was about a month ago, when i tried to learn One by Metallica (just the intro, not the whole song) and I got so mad that i couldn't play anything that I grabbed that i learned on violin instead.

Since that time i only practiced once, about 10 minutes and learned to play some scales, and today that i learned to play part of Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

I know that practicing so little is not really good, but do you think this is some sort of good progress for only three times that i've picked up my guitar?

BTW, i did learn to play the intro of One, and about five minutes ago i learned to play the beginning of Pork and Beans by Weezer (super easy, i know, don't criticize).

  • How is the world different when you see it through music?

In spanish class we're studding a book about a... (well it's to long, so i'll just get to the point)

It's about a girl that grew up in the kitchen and she loved to cook, so the way that she saw the world was through food and cooking. She also didn't get out of the house much, almost never, and it was hard for her to understand the world outside the kitchen.

I've noticed how people see things differently depending on their interests.

I love history, so when you mention a place the first thing that comes to my mind is the battles of wars and the culture of the place.

But I also think of how i see the world through music, I think of composers, or even more modern musicians. ex: when you mention Germany, I think about WWII and Helloween. Not just that, but other things, like the weather, on how in Washington rains a lot, and how in a way affected the Grunge scene.

    so, yeah...

    Opinions?

  • what would your reaction be?

I get really bored after school, so I just grab my friend's violin and start playing, but instead of playing Bach and Chopin, I play Metallica, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, etc... Even Lady Gaga when I'm in the mood for it.

I think it's cool, and some random dudes tried to give me money, which was really weird.

Once I got approached by a guy asking me The name of the song i was playing (bitter sweet symphony).

I've been thinking about putting tutorials on you tube on how to play this songs on violin, and even me playing some of my favorite songs, but i'm not sure if they would be popular.

Should i do it or should I not?

  • Is my hand to small for guitar?

    5.5''

I got a guitar for christmas, and i've been trying to play it, but I have a lot of trouble, I can't stretch my fingers to reach what i'm trying to play, and at the end i have to shift. It sucks because whenever I see someone playing it seems so natural, even friends at school that grab a guitar for the First time don't have any trouble playing whatever their friend thought them about five minutes before.

I've been playing the violin for 7 years, and I don't remember feeling as weird the first time i played it. I'm not expecting to play like Eddie Van Halen in the first minutes that i learn, but something tells me that i shouldn't feel as uncomfortable playing it, even if i don't have experience with it, maybe feel weird at first, but not this weird.

hand is a total of 5.5'' and middle finger is 2'' and 3/8.

  • Bon Jovi's The Circle comes out today in the U.S. thoughts?

This album is the only good thing happening to me today.

and BQ: will i look too stupid if i make a "chris crocker" like video asking Steven Tyler not to leave Aerosmith?

Think about it, today we have the advantage of having the internet, and we are able to use it for our advantage. If there was Internet back when The Beatles split up, maybe people would have been able to convince them otherwise, at least to last a couple more years. Maybe after the 1000th You Tube video asking him not to leave he would change his mind.

  • It's almost November 10, how do you feel about that (music related)?

Ok, for those that don't know, the new Bon Jovi album is coming out tomorrow.

I know that there's not that many Bon Jovi fans here in R&P, but I had to share my joy with someone before I go to sleep.

    Anyways....

    Questions:

P&S: Do you like Bon Jovi? why or why not?

BQ: If you don't like Bon Jovi, or just not that much, what's a band that you do like a lot that you were really happy when their last album came out, or that you are waiting for a new album to come out?

BQ2: Is there another thing that you also get really happy when it comes out? (new books, movies, video games, etc...)

Random MQ: What are you listening to at the moment (song) or what was the last thing you listened to?

  • Kiss or AC/DC, if you had to pick one to go to their concert?

Hello, I just happen to live in the most boring place in the whole world where we never get good bands or concerts.

But for some reason Kiss and AC/DC are coming.

I'm not a big fan of either, but I still want to go because: Duh it's Kiss and Duh, it's AC/DC.

The only problem is that i have to pick only one, the Kiss concert is on a school night, and in the school dance team we are selling parking space for the concert anyways. If I go to the Kiss Concert I have to go with someone because I'm not aloud to go alone, and the only girl in the dance team that I could go right after the parking selling is the most annoying person in the world, but I still want to go and see Kiss.

For the AC/DC concert there is a chance that we might sell parking space too, and the only girl in the dance team besides me that likes AC/DC happens to be one of the coolest girls ever, but I don't know if she can go. I also happen to like AC/DC way better than Kiss, but the tickets are more expensive and I have to buy my ticket myself.

The tickets for the AC/DC concert are at least about 30 dollars (The cheapest ones) and for the Kiss Concert they are at least 15 dollars (in the very back, but I don't care).

If I try, I might go to both, but If I can't afford both tickets, I have to only pick one.

So, if you were in my possision, which one would you pick? and if you just happen to not like Kiss or AC/DC try to replase the names with bands that you like in a similar situation, and tell me what situation you would choose.

  • What would you do if this happened to you?

I just got my tickets for an awesome concert that i want to go. One of the main (or the main reason) that I want to go is because of Mark Wood, violinist of TSO. I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Mark Wood is probably my idol, and one of my musical inspirations.

Bur I just found out that he left TSO. I saw him life last year with TSO, and i was looking forward to see him again, I don't know what to do, I have the tickets already, but it will not be the same as i expected.

so, my question to you is: What would you do if something like this happened to you?

    BQ: Musical Idol

BQ2: Favorite Trans Siberian Orchestra song (or cover)

  • Kurt Cobain for Speech class?

I have to do a talk on a subject and i picked Kurt Cobain.

    1. What title should I use: "Rather Be Dead Than Cool" or "Smells like suicidal spirit, or murder"

    2. I need really specific dates, mostly about the Grunge Scene, not really on Kurt Cobain, just the scene itself.

also, a small statistic on what people think: Do you think that he killed himself or was killed? why do you think that?
