A few years ago the sci/fi channel had a bunch of short stories on. On of them was about a housewife that could hear a mans voice clear across the country and he could hear hears. Another story was set in an apocolyptic world where there are no bugs and the population gets labotomies in order to be happy. A girl is chosen to be "happy" but instead gets to the bottom a government conspiracy.

It set in the forties and everyone practices magic expect this detective that is trying to solve serveral magic related homicides. Also in the plot is an evil rich guy who tries to sacrice his virgin daughter to get more power but gets eaten because his daughter wasn't a virgin and the demon he sommund knows.
