3 AntwortenBuenos Airesvor 7 JahrenHow do foreigners getting married in Buenos Aires find witnesses for their wedding?
I want to marry my Honduran fiancé in Buenos Aires, and have read up on the requirements there. They require two witnesses that are residents of Buenos Aires be present at the wedding. Can any of the courthouse employees serve in that capacity, or do I have to find someone willing to do it for free or some kind of fee? Has anyone been married there that can tell me how that got this done?
1 AntwortWeddingsvor 7 JahrenWhere is best to stay in Rome?
I am going to Rome early April (anyone who knows what the weather is like, chime in!). I have traveled to many places in several countries, and have to say, finding a reasonable place to stay in room (pricewise) with good reviews from Tripadvisor in Rome is turning into a full time job. I want something hopefully $100 or so (or less is better) and am willing to move around to get a taste of more than one place. Are there good sites for European hotel browsing (my understanding there are better sites not used much in the U.S. like Obitz or Travelocity, that have better deals outside of the U.S.)? Is it better to stay as close to the action in Rome as possible, or stay outside where it's quiet, and just plan to travel in and out? Is there any side trip I should think about, for a day trip, or multiple day trip? I will have 6 full days there. What attractions to skip? I am not Catholic...is the Vatican still worthwhile?

I have a room I rent, and when it was free last year, a friend asked to live there. He moved in and we became good friends. One condition of moving in for any roommate is that there is no drug use in the house. He also has friends capable of drinking throughout the night into the next day, so I was clear that they were not to do that there.
So, as to be expected with substance abusers, he started having a brother in law over to drink...supposedly. Turns out he had been doing cocaine with friends. I woke up at 5AM last Saturday to find there were several people in his room and he had made statements at a party earlier that he had been doing coke.
So...am I too strict and uptight, or is my sense that this should not be going on in my house correct?

For the first time in history, the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is down, by 8%. Why is Faux Noise dragging its feet to report this, when it's all over everywhere else. Are they busy fact checking?
1 AntwortPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntWas Bush's stimulus plan far superior?
When jobs were being lost at 2.6 million for 2008 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7820164.stm) and banks were heading for trouble, gas was approaching $5 per gallon, and the housing market began to tank, Bush sent everyone $300. Was that far superior? Did it save the day? Should Obama take back everything he's done and just cut us all a check for $300 too? Or would that be Socialist if he did it?
12 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntWould you make a sacrifice to make the country better?
Specifically, would you give up pot and/or cocaine to stop funding drug cartels, which directly and indirectly are corrupting our system and bringing violence? Or is it too much of a sacrifice? I think back to WWII when there was sugar rationing, nylons were scarce, but now we want to just keep on self indulging and wonder why someone else doesn't make it better. Would you give up being high for any length of time if it helped stabilize countries enough to where people wouldn't be illegally immigrating here? Or is it asking way too much?
14 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntDr. Laura leaving the airwaves...who still listened?
I remember when she first started, I used to listen to her as her time slot coincided with when I did some weekend chores (this was a long time ago). She started out as somewhat moderate. Then, she decided to become religious, because religion was the cornerstone to a happy and meaningful life (or ratings?). Then a few years later, she admitted to having quit practicing religion. In the old days, she was live-and-let-live with regard to gay people. Then, realizing other talk show hosts got more ratings by bashing them, she did a 180 and bashed them too. They retaliated. She somewhat backed off that position. Now she's shocked that someone whose motto is "do the right thing" can't go on TV and use an epiphet 11 times offended people. Maybe because she grew up back before the Emancipation Proclomation (she looks like it), and she never got up to date on things. See you later you ratings wh*re...if you go to her website, she just has a bunch of crap for sale. Even a Dr. Laura doll...a great gag gift, but I won't do it, because I will not let that woman have a dime of my money.

6 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntHow do Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh know what Obama thinks?
Did you ever notice they will casually and authoratively state that Obama wants a complete government takeover of everything, or Obama thinks we need higher taxes? But constantly they claim to know what he is thinking (or what any other liberal is thinking, wanting, doing at that moment via ESP). But they have no actual footage of him SAYING this? It's their conclusion based on fallacious reasoning (the slippery slope to be exact).
Before anyone decides they fear or hate someone based on what they think, shouldn't you find evidence that they in fact think so? (I'm pretty sure Glenn Beck is in favor of baby sacrifices and Rush Limbaugh secretly wants you to lose your job and starve).;

Forget Obama's birth certifcate (which he has actually produced, BTW-no matter what the crazies continue to say), I want to see Ann Coulter's birth certificate. One: is she American? Two: what appears in the box under Sex? I say Male. I won't believe otherwise until I get a birth certificate that meets my standards.
20 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntIs it Socialistic to pay poor people to have babies (Earned Income Tax Credit)?
What about paying every adult in the U.S. $300 straight out of the treasury? Not once but twice?
As a single person (and saying this as a Democrat), I'm tired of paying for idiots to have babies. I think it's time to have people buy their kids' necessities with their own money, not mine. Do away with the EITC, do away with WIC and don't increase food stamps or welfare checks for more babies. Nixon and Reagan were strong proponents of tax breaks for poor people with kids (essentially paying people to have more kids in poverty). Is something wrong with paying a few dollars for birth control instead of tens of thousands for impoverished children?
15 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntWhy do Conservatives have "Liberals love big government" as their mantra?
Clinton aggressively reduced the size of government, was the only president to take some action on Social Security (raised the age of future retirement, a small step, but the first at reducing payouts), reduced the number of civil servants, and signed off on welfare reform to limit it.
Bush added more government, added Medicare Part D, and through the Patriot Act, gave the government more right to spy on citizens with less cause.
Who loves big government now? (For any conservatives reading this, FYI, despite what Fox tells you, we don't walk around loving the government and wishing there were more of it, they are just telling you that to demonize us. You are being lied to.)

I remember in the late 1980's that there were people running around saying the Mayan calendar ended in 1987. What happened with that? Why do we never consult their calendar for anything else besides the end of the world? I also am wondering when a Mayan will tell us about their calendar, so far, I only hear from hysterical Americans telling each other about it, though they've never even seen the calendar.
9 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntLiberals: do you enjoy listening to Faux News and cons on YA telling us what we want and think?
And I didn't say never watch Faux News again. I said for a week, watch the others and POINT OUT WHERE they are saying "let's destroy the country, it would be a better way to go."
26 AntwortenPoliticsvor 1 JahrzehntWhen did Obama say, "I want to destroy this country."?
I see and hear cons say this all the time, but never really tied to anything. Most are up in arms against the TARP program and bailouts, which I am not in love with in many respects, but I think those who think the government's response should have been to do nothing and let the economy totally collapse is not well informed. Does anyone remember what was happening at the end of Bush's administration? Remember $5/gal gas? Remember the number of large banks in danger of failing? Where do you think that would have left people? Letting everything collapse would have meant more jobs for all? I agree the deficit is terrifying, but the Iraq war that Bush/Cheney HAD to start has cost us dearly, and can be what makes us collapse financially. Looking back at the British, Spanish Empires or the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was miscalculated, unwinnable military engagement that brought them down financially. We thought we were different. But Obama didn't mastermind that did he?
