  • Do I need to learn to drive?

I'm 22-year old college student currently living at home with my mother. I've been commuting to my college by bus for the past 3 years for free as I get unlimited rides on the bus (My student fees pay for it.)

I am going to be living on-campus next year and plan to get a job either at my college or somewhere in town. That being said, would I even need a driver's license or car? (I have a State ID, which I used for my last job). The bus system here is pretty reliable, and it's free (as mentioned already), and it runs late--usually until around 11pm, but in some places 3am.

I just don't see how paying for driver's school (~$500), a car (2k+), insurance (~$150/m), and all the other expenses is worth it, unless I need to drive somewhere out in the country. College is already expensive enough and it would be nice to save some money.

    Any thoughts?

  • Help with choosing On-Campus Apartment?

So I will be living on-campus next year in the on-campus apartments, since the dorms are only reserved for freshmen. I have next lived on my own before, so I don't know what to expect.

Since I hardly know anyone at my college, I will have to choose a room with roommates who I don't know. Thankfully, I am given the option of viewing the personalities of people who have already booked (i.e.: "Loud", "Bookworm.") Doing this, I will be able to weed out many rooms/buildings.

Now I am a fairly quiet person, and certainly like to have my own space. I have the option of living in an apartment marked "Quiet," but then I would likely have to be quiet as a mouse all the time. I want to have some socialibility. That being said, I also want to have my sleep. It is hard for me to sleep, and hearing people talking outside my door (in the living room or hallway) would keep me up. The other options for buildings with somekind of restriction are "Substance Free" and "Transfer."

I have the option of being either in a 4-room apartment or a 6-room. Obviously, the 4 room would be better, right?

Any advice you can give me on apartment selection or independent living in general would be much appreciated.

  • Can I file an income tax return considering how few dollars I've earned?

I had a short-lived part-time job in 2013 and my earnings did not exceed $1000. $23.17 of federal income tax money was withheld from my earnings.

I am also a dependent, unmarried, and don't have any children.

Can I file for a return? This would be my first time filing if so.

  • What to put on resume considering lack of experience?

I'm 21, graduated community college, and am wanting to apply for a cashier/stocker position at the 4-yr college I will be going to. The problem is my lack of experience.

The first and only job that I held was a fast-food position, and that was for 3 weeks until I quit because I felt I wasn't properly trained and the manager was slightly verbally abusive. Considering how bare my resume is, should I include this job on my resume or would it be better to leave it off so that I don't have to talk about it if it comes up in an interview? (Would it be unlawful to not mention that I previously had a job, or to not include it on my resume?)

  • Confusion about deadlines for scholarships?

I am applying for scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year, however, this is my first time applying for scholarships and I am a bit confused about the deadline dates. If a deadline is, say, between January 1 and March 31, is that for a 2014-2015 scholarship or for the next year, 2015-2016? What about other months? (Can someone break it down for me?)

  • How to ask my uncle for tuition deposit money?

I need to ask my uncle for $50 for my advance tuition deposit or else I don't go to college. Here is the thing, though. He already gave my brother and I both $50 as a graduation present from community college, although the money my brother received doubled as the tuition deposit money for the same college I am going to. As I was not planning to continue my education at that point months ago, the money I received went on other necessities.

Anyway, my uncle is a little stingy with his money as he doesn't make much (A little contradictory right now though because he is on vacation...) I fear he will likely tell me to work for my neighbors, even though there is absolutely no soliciting where I live. So how do I go about this?

  • Judicial Immunity law (state/federal)?

I am looking for a primary source, federal or state law (Washington, ref: RCW), pertaining to absolute immunity for judges and the court from lawsuit. If anyone knows where I can find such a law, it would be much appreciated.

  • Do you play blindly on a new MMORPG?

So when you are going to play a new MMORPG, do you go in blindly without looking of loads of information on the best classes, builds, etc. or do you spend hours comparing stats between classes?

Do you think it's better to get your feet wet with the game before worrying about all that stuff or do you instead cram that information before you play?

  • Christians, has it made you wonder how there are so many religions?

Has it made you curious how there are so many religions in the world, and yet you believe in Christianity? Are all of the other religions; Judaism, Islam, Buddism, Hinduism, Taoism, etc; simply wrong or do you think the religious teachings have some applicable truth in them?

What is keeping you in believing in Christianity considering the numerous amount of other existing religions? If you think your religion is the only way, how can you be so sure of this?

  • Law pertaining to Judicial Immunity?

Where would I find a law or laws stating that judges and all members of a court have absolute immunity to lawsuit within their judicial/court duties? Would I find it in the Revised Code of Washington (the state where I live) or can it be found at the federal level?

  • In this case, is pirating of a video game justifiable?

In the following case, would piracy of a video game be ethically justified?

    1) One had previously owned a game, but does not anymore.

    2) New copies of said game have since stopped being made.

I heard that it is legal to possess a ROM of a video game if one has a hard copy of the game. But in the case of having previously owned a game, however, not owning it anymore, regardless of legality, can it be ethically justified?

If a game is not releasing new copies, the makers are not profiting, only the second-hand stores.

I want to know if the above reasons make it ethically justifiable to pirate a video game.

  • Christians, how old do you think the Earth is?

Using all of the biblical information he could get his hands on, Bishop James Ussher (1581-1656) established that the Earth was created in 4004 BC.

In more recent times, geological evidence (the fossil record, rock strata, radiocarbon dating) has established that the Earth is at least billions of years old (around 4.5 billion).

Which do you believe to be true and why?

  • Is God a murderer? (Ezekiel 9: 5-7)?

To the others He said in my hearing, “Go after him through the city and kill; do not let your eye spare, nor have any pity. Utterly slay old and young men, maidens and little children and women; but do not come near anyone on whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple. Then He said to them, “Defile the temple, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out!” And they went out and killed in the city. (Ezekeil 9: 5-7, NKJV)

Does the ordering of the killing of "old and young men, maidens and little children" make God a murderer?

I don't want to hear God can do this or that because he is God. He is not out of the playing field for our human ethics.

    No bullsh*t.

    No mental backflips.

    Please answer rationally.

  • How to not develop bad habits while teaching self keyboard?

I am needing to pick up playing keyboard again, and do not have money to afford lesson, so I am wondering how can I avoid developing bad habits while teaching myself keyboard?

Should I be concerned about injuring myself, and if so, how do I avoid this? I've heard that one should not tense up their arms while playing, that one should keep their arms up; but I don't know too much more than that.

  • How do you find Pascal's wager?

For those who don't know, I will explain Pascal's wager:

    ---

If you believe in God, and there is a God, then you win and go to heaven. If the opposite is true, then you neither win nor lose. However, if you don't believe in God, and there is a God, you lose and go to hell; but if there isn't a God, you neither win nor lose. So it is a better wager to choose to believe in God.

    ---

I will withhold my own opinion as it is quite strong. Although I would like to hear the point of view of the religious and nonreligious alike.

  • Why do sugary breakfasts even exist?

Having a breakfast like sugary cereal or pancakes with syrup is kind of counterproductive, since the sugar saps your energy (and when you need it most!). Who ever thought of drowning breakfasts with sugar, anyway? Why do they exist?
