  • ISP uses NAT for WAN connection.?

My ISP (Bell Sympatico) uses NAT on the WAN connection that connects me to the Internet. ( I assume to share public IP addresses between multiple subscribers) My Internal LAN uses the 192.168.0.0/24 subnet, and my router uses the 192.168.2.0/24 subnet as its WAN connection. My external IP address reads as a public IP address from websites.

This has never been an issue as it connects to the Internet just fine, however, I am trying to set up a connection to my home PC through Remote Desktop. My home router is configured properly to provide port fowarding to the PC (I can connect to it using the 192.168.2.10 address that my router has associated with it on the WAN side) along with connecting within the LAN itself, my problem lies somewhere on the ISP side of things, as connecting through the Public IP address is proving to be impossible. it seems I would need to have access to their router in order to forward the port to my router and so forth.

Anyone ever heard of this before? The guys at Bell aren't very knowledgeable, though I haven't had a chance to escalate beyond the 1st tier support. Anyone have any suggestions?

(I am well versed in LAN/WAN technologies, CCNA in progress, but I don't see a way of doing this from my end)

  • Poorly written letter of recommendation.?

I am a college student who is trying to move into a job more-related to my field while I pursue my final year of college. I have worked at a restaurant for the last three years and asked my employer if he would write me a letter of recommendation, which he was happy to.

Once I received the letter I found that it was poorly written, not in content, but in grammar and general sentence structure.

I am not sure how to approach this situation.

Should I edit the letter myself to fix the grammar issues?

Should I approach my boss and ask him to fix them? I don't want to offend him.

Should I just attach it to my resume in its current state?

They aren't major issues, just a few missing commas, and some problems with tense continuity. However, it is an extremely professional career that I am pursuing where documentation and writing are key. I notice these errors on a quick read-through and I am sure potential employers would also.

  • ISP shutting down connection because of a virus?

My mother in law's internet connection was shut down by her ISP (Or there was a brief outage) and when she called, they claimed that there was a virus on a computer in her network and they shut the internet down briefly to prevent the spread of said virus. I am a computer science student with a focus on Networking (MCITP, CCNA, A+ ect.) and I have never heard of an ISP controlling internet access due to a virus.

    1) It is unlikely that they could detect such a virus.

2)What would shutting the internet down temporarily do to stop a virus anyway.

Does this sound Fishy to anyone else? It seems like the CSR from the ISP was just trying to find an excuse to get her off the phone.

  • Why trees grow in some areas but not others?

My grandfather owns 90 acres of bush behind his house and my extended family owns another 200 all together. The property is covered by thick trees in the Boreal Shield part of Ontario. There is a system of ATV and Snowmobile trails out there at at one point you come to a clearing where the thick forest turns into a field filled with wildflowers that is about an acre in size. My question is: Why don't trees that surround the area grow into this field, why did they not grow and why does the field not get grown in upon. In the middle of the field there is several large trees in the centre, what causes them to grow while the rest of the field is barren.

Whatever it is, it makes for a beautiful picture:
