How does voltage-current surge and/or magnetic flux affect an electronic timer?
You know, those 2" by 2" by 3/4" (WAGNER hockey puck) adjustable solid state timers? Sorry, I'm not much on electronic theory. Are they susceptable to voltage/current surge? Magnetic flux? Will that screw them up so they might instantly reset or infinite time out? I've got one in my furnace circuit, and I think that when the high voltage transformer for spark is energized it messes with the timer (and I end up having to get them replaced every so often as they intermittantly fail).
Thanx!
2 AntwortenEngineeringvor 1 JahrzehntToo much car insurance???
I have three cars, junkers.... but paid for cars, liability on all 3 (no collision). I really dont care if one of them goes up in flames or rolls into a ditch while I'm not in it as long as no-one is hurt. Now... I can only drive one at a time. Why do I have to have all three insured? Why cant I (me, myself; the driver) be insured instead for damage that I might cause, and the insurance follows me to whatever car I drive? I live in Connecticut, the insurance capital of the world (which may have something to do with it).
Thanx!

2 AntwortenEngineeringvor 1 JahrzehntWater geysers on Enceladus...?
Nobody is quite sure how such a small moon can have a molten interior that drives the water geysers and volcanoes. Calculations of the tidal forces due to Saturn dont seem strong enough and Enceladus is not massive enough for appreciable heating by radioactive decay.
I suggest that (the overlooked answer is) electrical currents due to the magnetic field interactions with Saturn are causing the heating.
1 AntwortAstronomy & Spacevor 1 JahrzehntEnceladus and her molten core...?
The strong magnetic field of Saturn and Enceladus' interactions with it; is it possible that the magnetic field is causing partial melting inside Enceladus? If the moon is a poor conductor with high resistance, cutting across the field will generate an electrical current which will cause heating and melting.

5 AntwortenAstronomy & Spacevor 1 JahrzehntHow to get "The ex" to honor divorce degree?
How would you get an ex husband to live up to dependant child visitation that is clearly and specifically deliniated in the divorce papers?
He has primary custody, and what is written out is visitation every other weekend with his mom, the other parent. Every once in a while, he skips out with some lame excuse and keeps the child on a weekend he is NOT supposed to have him. So sometimes she goes for two weeks without seeing her son, which is tearing her apart. And not only that, but it is clearly damaging to the six year old son.
Also, the ex never does any driving (drop-offs or pick-ups).
What do you recommend?
Thanx!

We import about 20% of our oil from the anti-civilization nihlists in the Mideast. SURELY, we can make-do with 20% less imported oil? And go tell them idiots to go suck sand?
And long term, lets replace that 20% with about one or two thousand new nuclear power plants; lets build nuke plant parks in unpopulated areas of the American southwest far away from the cities.

The very last shot of the movie, Sara is in the water tank, although she previously hung herself in the movie. I could follow it all except for that.

Is there a way to test an ignition condenser to see if it is working properly? Aside from replacing I mean. The small engine is a 25 year old 2 hp Johnson outboard motor and the spark is strong but interrmittant with a spark tester. And what exactly does a condenser do? Is it like a capacitor? Can I put 2 in parallel? Would that help the spark quality?

1 AntwortBoats & Boatingvor 1 JahrzehntGeothermal energy; specifics--whats the holdup?
If we drill a hole several miles deep and inject water (anywhere in the world), we can extract almost unlimited geothermal energy.
So why are we not developing this energy source more?
I'm sure drilling a hole miles deep is darn expensive, but here's my questions;
(1) Specifically, what needs to be improved in the drilling technology?
(2) I understand (thank you, eiscubes) that ground water precipitates muck up the heat exchanger, but that just does'nt sound like a show-stopper; just design a big, inefficient (but easy to clean) heat exchanger, right?

Mine's ORION, because there are so many bright and different types of stars, plus the nebulae and galaxies in it... and very easy to recognize and use as a landmark to find other constellations. And the mythology is very cool too!
