I am a Catholic, i have been since i was 16, I'm 24 now. I'm married and have a family. I post here as a ministry to people that are curious about Christianity or Catholicism in general. I do my best to answer questions as accurately as possible. If you ask a question and i answer it, but i don't quite answer it the way you would like, ask me and i will try to add to it. In Christ

  • Question about Sunday Obligation (for Catholics)?

I have a job where I work every other Sunday, so I miss Mass once every other week. Do i have to go to confession every other week for missing Mass because of work? Or is there some sort of dispensation that I can receive to miss Mass?

    Thanks

  • My fellow Catholics I have a question?

What do you think that the Church will do in light of the decision made by the Supreme Court in support of the HHS mandate? What do you think the bishops will do? What should we do?

  • Question for Faith Alone of Sola Fide professing Christians?

I am looking for an interpretation of Matthew 7:21.

Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.

    Matt 7:21 (DRB)

    Haydock Commentaries:

Ver. 21. Here Jesus Christ shews, that it is not sufficient to believe in him and hear his words, but that in order to salvation, we must join works with faith; for in this shall we be examined at the last day. (Menochius) --- Without faith they could not cry out, Lord, Lord. (Romans x.) But the strongest faith without the works of justice, will not be available to salvation. (1 Corinthians xiii.) (Bristow) --- Many who have the Lord continually in their mouths, but care little about putting on the Lord, or penetrating themselves with his true spirit, will find their presumption, and the false consciences they have made to themselves, wofully disappointed. (Haydock)

    21: Matthew xxv. 11.; Luke vi. 46.

My question is, how can we believe that we are saved by Faith Alone, when Jesus suggests so strongly that he who cries out 'Lord, Lord' will not always go to Heaven, and one must do the will of the Father to get into Heaven?

Please kind and charitable answers only. This is a legitimate question for Christians who believe works have nothing to do with our Salvation.

    Thanks

  • A question for Baptists (specifically Southern Baptists)?

Do Baptists teach Once Saved, Always Saved? Meaning that you cannot lose your salvation.

And if so, is this something that all Baptists would teach? Or would it depend on the church/pastor?

    Please, kind answers only. Thanks!

  • Catholic Bible question?

Is it true that the New Testament in the New American Bible (NAB) is identical to the New Testament in the New American Bible - Revised Edition (NAB-RE)?

I had thought that I read somewhere that the NAB and NAB-RE only had different Old Testaments from the revision. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks!

  • Can someone help me find these Online Bibles?

I am looking for these two bibles in an online format:

The Jerusalem Bible and the New Jerusalem Bible.

I am especially looking for versions which contain the footnotes on the original 1966 and 1985 versions respectively.

I have already found the JB here:

    http://www.seraphim.my/bible/jb/jb-ot%20content.ht...

    http://www.seraphim.my/bible/jb/jb-nt%20content.ht...

    and the NJB here:

But I cannot find footnotes for either translation. Help would be most appreciated.

  • A question for Jehovah's Witness?

I have a question about the divinity of Jesus (or the non-divinity of Jesus, however you want to look at it).

I'll start off saying that I am a Catholic, and I believe in the Trinity. I was comparing bible translations, and I found a verse that I expected to be different in the NWT (like John 1) but found it to be the same.

Next he said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand and stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but become believing.”

In answer Thomas said to him: “My Lord and my God!”

    John 20:27-28 (NWT)

Why is it that Thomas exclaims to Jesus "My Lord and my God!" upon seeing his wounds? It sounds very much as if he is proclaiming that Jesus is his Lord and that Jesus is his God. That is how I understand it, what are your thoughts?

Please, don't answer unless you actually answer the question. And please remain charitable and kind. Thank you.

    God Bless.

  • Are the assets of a Sole Proprietorship always...?

The assets of the business owner?

For example, if I owned a business that purchased and rented properties, those properties would be assets for my business. Would they also by my personal assets? Insomuch as federal documents go (taxes, federal/student aid, etc.)

  • My fellow Catholics, a question?

I have a question about the Church's stance on the Sanctity of Live vs Just War.

I know that the Church strongly opposes things such as Abortion, Euthanasia, and Capital Punishment.

But I know that it also teaches that Catholics can fight in a war if the war is considered 'Just'.

What is the difference? Isn't taking a life, taking a life?

Thanks in advance for your answers, please do not post if you will not attempt to answer the question, or if you cannot remain charitable in doing so.

  • Why do Protestant Christians believe in salvation by Faith Alone?

    Especially when Scripture condemns it?

You see now that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified

    James 2:24 (NJB)

As a body without a spirit is dead, so is faith without deeds

    James 2:26 (NJB)

I am aware of the following verses that might support it:

    Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God;

not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.

    Ephesians 2:8-9 (NJB)

So then, now that we have been justified by faith, we are at peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ

    Romans 5:1 (NJB)

We all know that Scripture is the Word of God, and that it is infallible, and does not contradict itself when read in context. So, understanding all the verses I quoted above, surely we can see that we are saved not just by faith (James) and not just by works (Ephesians) but by Grace, and a combination of BOTH works and faith. I know that this is the teaching of the Catholic Church, yet many seem to disagree with it.

The question is, why do some Protestant Christians believe that faith alone (Sola Fide) saves you, but works are not involved? Especially when these 'bible only' Christians have scripture that contradicts this theology?

I am not trying to start an argument, I am simply looking for a good explination, please do not post unless you are going to try to actually answer the question. I'll report you if you don't, so lets have none of that :)

    God Bless!

I know a lot of religious thought can go into this, but I am writing a paper about the immorality of birth control, and the paper must not be religiously biased. I am looking for links to scientific studies and such.

I was hoping for help specifically from the other Catholics here, but if anyone else has useful information, I would gladly accept it. Thank you

  • Non-Catholics, a question?

Is there a single Catholic Doctrine that does not have biblical support?

Think open-mindedly with me for a second, now even if you disagree about the interpretation of a verse, is there a single Catholic teaching that cannot be found, to some degree, in the bible?

I ask this because I constantly read people stating that Catholics do not follow the bible. This, of course i disagree with, so I am asking to find a Catholic teaching that cannot be found in the bible (regardless of your stance on the interpretation).

For example I'll turn it around, I do not agree with or believe in the pre-trib Rapture doctrine. However, I do understand biblical support for it. Even though I don't think that's what it teaches, I can see how someone could come up with the idea from Scripture. I ask you to look at Catholic doctrines in the same open-minded light. Thank you.

Please keep all answers relevant to the question, if you don't answer or do it rudely, I will report you. So lets have none of that! :)

  • My fellow Catholics, can I be a part of my sisters wedding?

My sister is a Catholic, and is getting married. Her fiance is divorced twice and would need to go through the process of an annulment twice before they could be married. Our local priest is telling them that it could be over a 2 year wait. That's not including marriage counseling classes.

So my sister has decided to get married outside the Church at a local Baptist church. I know this is directly against Church teachings.

She has asked me to be a groomsman in the wedding.

Can I still go to her wedding even though I know (or at least feel) what she is doing is morally wrong? I have tried to talk her into waiting for the annulment process but she won't. I don't know if she will attempt it after they are married and get married in the Church later or not.

    Your thoughts?

  • I have read several times that Constantine established the Catholic Church?

I have read several times on here that Constantine established the Catholic Church. Would someone who believes that please tell me why they believe that? If the Catholic Church didn't already exist, where would he have gotten his members? If the Catholic Church didn't already exist, how would Saint Ignatius of Antioch have written about it in the early 100s?
