Mamma Cat

I am fostering a cat that will probably have his right rear leg amputated. It has been paralyzed all his life. I have a 2 story house and I am wondering if he can learn to navigate the stairs or do I need to build a ramp?

However, she can't walk without falling from her back legs. She is so large, I thought she was about to deliver. Her nipples are flat. Her abdomen is firm, but belly is fat and falling to the floor. She is missing many teeth, her fur is oily and she yowls like she is in pain or confused.

I will get authorization to take her to a vet tomorrow.

I am concerned that she is an older cat and has a different medical problem.

My question is, how old can a cat get pregnant? I don't know her age, but I am guessing that she is quite old.

She is 4 weeks old and startles when I reach out to her when she is sleeping. I tap the floor to wake her and don't touch her until she responds. I am trying to teach her to come with hitting the floor until she looks at me and then give the come here sign.

She would rather sleep than interact with the other kittens.

Any advice???

I was fostering 12 kittens from my local shelter and all are well. I have one mom left. She is a surrogate for 2 other kittens that I received last week. One died the day after I got him with a vet visit, severe diarrhea and fluid replacement. Parvo test was negative. I had one kitten in isolation with diarrhea. I was asked to take in a 2 day old kitten for my surrogate. I declined as I didn't know what was going on with my remaining orphan that had diarrhea. He was given to another foster. Once the stool test came back negative, I called the shelter and asked for the little kitten as I had the surrogate. I was never given an answer.

Now, one week later, I get a call from the shelter saying that the kitten is at the vets as it is hypothermic, severe diarrhea and essentially has not had proper care. Please pick him up from the vet. So, I agree. The kitten died before I got there despite fluid replacement and rewarming.

I feel very guilty for not taking the kitten on the first call.

What would you have done????

Cats rule and dogs drool. This is the cats kingdom and there is a picture of a dog and 2 kids. I would rather see a picture of a cat and kittens. What do others think?

My beautiful bengal was euthanized due to advanced Lupus. We fought this problem for several years and we lost the battle.

Just wondering if anyone else has gone through Lupus.

I am very frustrated with the change in yahoo. I am a top contributor in Cats and I can't answer a question and then go find another question. I have posted this question in cats as that is the main category that I respond to and the question has not been posted. Does anyone else have this same problem or is it just me????

We have a hand peeled log home. The outside logs are sealed with a breathable sealant.

Do the interior logs also need a breathable sealant? Or can a urethane sealant be used?

It is kitten season and the little guys are getting ready for their litter box. Clumping clay litter is a big no-no. I usually use non clumping clay litter, but these guys go in the box just to eat it. Normally the kittens will take a bite or two, but this litter feasts on it.

I bought some Natures Miracle Natural litter which states it is for kittens, but it is clumping litter.

So what do other kitten owners use for kitten litter boxes???

They are only 2 days old. I can't tell if they are boys are girls, they all look the same. Any suggestions on how to mark them to tell them apart? No collars or nailpolish. They are still with their mom, but she is sick and I need to monitor their weights.

I have answered questions for several years and now yahoo is only giving me "recommended" questions which already have many answers and at least one or more I agree with.

So I don't feel I am contributing anything.

My foster queen just delivered 6 white kittens with black spots. They look like dalmations. 4 girls and 2 boys. Now I need to name them. Any suggestions???

Yes, they will all be spayed/neutered when they are 2 pounds and before they go up for adoption. These are shelter rescue cats. As a foster, I have the privilege of naming them.

She is a foster kitten that was dropped off at the shelter without a mother. The kitten is desperate. She roots and suckles on everything. She is eating well with kitten food and gaining good weight. She is active and plays with the other kittens.

But she won't stop suckling and rooting. She will bite a nipple if I try to bottle feed her. I have given her lots of toys and even rawhide strlps to chew on. She just wants to suckle.

I do not have a surrogate mom at the moment, but I do have a queen about to deliver.

What can I do to help this desperate kitten?

OK, I understand that the breeders want to preserve the best genes for the best show (and healthiest) cats.

But I am outraged at being reported to yahoo for saying that if a purebred cat doesn't have papers it could still be a bengal

I understand that you want to save the breed, but I don't understand why you can't conceive the idea that a purebred can't escape or be rejected due to a malformation and reproduce. Believe me, I am a member of Savannah rescue and bengal rescue. It happens. Some people with less funds want a beautiful cat and will spend a few hundred dollars (not thousands) to enjoy and provide and protect their pet cats. They not not want to breed them. I do not support backyard breeding. But I do support anyone that will take in a cat and give it a home, love and a life. I don't care it they have papers. It is your cat and whatever you want to call it is fine with me. Get off your high horse cat breeders. Other people love cats as pets and want to give them forever homes.

Why is this so wrong????

My cat is 2 years old and now has allergies. I just paid a kings ransom as the allergies caused an eye infection and my cat scratched her cornea.

I love my cat and I am just wondering what other people do with their beloved cats for allergies.

My vet talked about prednisone and the risks are greater than the benefit.

Any suggestions?

My queen (foster from the shelter) delivered 4 kittens 6 weeks ago and last week she went into heat. She is wild and will cry, dig in the carpet to get out of the door and yowls constantly. She will nurse briefly, then jump up and dump her kittens to start yowling.

The shelter is having her spayed tomorrow as the kittens are eating well on their own and mom was taken away from the kittens last week to reduce the lactation.

I have the option of bringing her back and allowing the kittens to nurse or leaving her at the shelter for adoption.

I am concerned with the nursing after spaying. It could be painful for the queen.

Any suggestions how to ease her discomfort, or should I just not bring her back?

Kittens are doing well with eating, litter box, bathing and socialization (I now have them underfoot) They all weigh about 2 pounds.

What have other people done when the mother cat goes into heat????

I am a foster mom so all cats/kittens will be spayed. But, my older kittens with a great mom are 4 weeks old. My younger kittens with a feral mom are 10 days old, just opened their eyes. Already I can see a difference between the response of the kittens when I hold them.

Vet says that feral mom won't make a difference. Just get the kittens use to mom

Shelter says, wean the kittens as soon as you can and take them away from mom before she can introduce feral behavior.

With that information, when should I introduce the younger kittens to the older litter with a domesticated mom.

Feral mom growls and hisses whenever I am in the room. There is no hope of domesticating her. I just want her to feed and get the kittens to pee and poo on their own. So I am taking the kittens out 2 at a time (there are 4) and introducing them to humans away from the feral mom.

I will be sure they are able to eat and pee by themselves before I "capture" mom and send her off for spaying and becoming a barn cat.

But I want the 4 kittens to have a more comfortable forever home so I want them around humans and domesticated cats.

So when should I introduce the young kittens to the new litter and with the new (domesticate mom)

when I pick up the kittens from the feral mom it is with gloves and a threat of bites. She is that mean. I understand that she is protecting her babies, but she is that way when no babies were around. I had to take her to the vet for an injection and 2 people were bitten in the process.
