Dear Dogma
NOTICE: I have joined the great purple exodus and as of January 2014 am no longer active here, you might catch me at; http://nahooyanswers.freeforums.org/index.php I am a 50 yr old, happily married, father of two adult children. Who lives in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, and enjoys reading theology and philosophy (especially Aquinas and the subject of Natural Law) I enjoy sports, especially ice hockey, which I played as a goaltender most of my life, but recently retired in 2012. My old goalie avatar pic has also been retired. My new pic is a recent one (2011) Whistler Bungee with Bruins themed yellow Mohawk. I'm a cradle Catholic (latin rite) who left the faith as a young adult and had to read himself back into Orthodoxy. My favorite quote; "I've searched all the town squares in every city and found no statues of committees." G.K. Chesterton
Who would you select first overall in the R&S pro bowl fantasy draft?
Top atheist;
Top theist;
*Only rule is you can't draft yourself
9 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenDo you ever knowingly post drivel here?
just curious if you were aware of it is all.
18 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenWhen you fight authority, who always wins?
I worked with a guy once who said he could only listen to old-school Mellencamp, because (as he put it) "he had the "Cougar" but then he dropped it" so he lost all respect for him as an artist.
BQ; What do you think of people that have a hyphenated last name and use it, then drop it later in life?
6 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenHow far off is thumbing down books you haven't read from burning them?
Someone just asked for recommended reads... fair enough. I would expect to see a vast variety of recommendations given the variety of ideologies that chime in around here. But out comes a thumbs down crusader that leaves his mark down the line with abandon. Now I suppose there is the possibility that this individual has actually read all of these books and is therefore an enlightened judge of the quality of the material, but I just get the feeling that the titles suggest the book wouldn't appeal to their closed mind. Now of course this is a meaningless Q&A, not something to gt worked up about. But even if you don't care to read books that oppose your ideology... is thumbing them down far off from burning them?
14 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenCan you reasonably belong to ANY Christian church if you condemn "Man-made traditions and Dogma."?
In a recent Q I just answered, another respondent condemned a Catholic teaching by saying "All these are Man-made traditions and Dogma." Now I of course agree with the statement, I just can't understand how they could reasonably offer a link to www.jw.org afterwards. The same applies to any church congregation though. If you condemn "Man-made traditions and Dogma." doesn't the Bible itself fit such a criteria? It certainly wasn't dropped from the sky or penned by the hand of God, it is in fact a "man-made tradition" it was written and edited by men.
11 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenChristians; "Unless you eat of the flesh of the son of man..." How do you feel about this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGk53Tu1-zU
Warning; This video is disturbing, but Christians need to address how their message can be so distorted as to allow for justification of murder and cannibalism. What would you say to your fellow Christian "Mad Dog"?
16 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenShould Yahoo change R&S to S&M?
Spirituality and Mythology....Get your mind out of the gutter!
12 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenDo you avoid awarding B/A or offering a T/U to someone that compliments you in their answer?
I'm not sure why... perhaps it's the final step to recognizing narcissistic tendencies, but I can not muster the strength to choose a best answer that has a compliment like "great Q (((Dogma)))" or something to that effect.
You?
12 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 7 JahrenHave you encountered a user in R&S that has managed to soften your position on their ideology?
For example; When you first came here, were you firmly opposed to Christianity, but one particular user has argued it in a way you hadn't considered before... or you started off here strongly against atheism, but one person here has managed to make you think of it in a new light.
There is of course another option... You came here set in your ways and no one is ever going to change your mind.
I'm not suggesting you've necessarily abandoned your initial position, just that a particular user has argued the position you came in opposed to in a way you hadn't considered.
