  • Why do mosquitos bite some people and not others?

Have just been bitten by a tiger mosquito 6 times. I splatted the pest because it was too fat to fly. My husband and daughter in the same room didn't get bitten once!

  • Can anyone give me ideas for my daughter's 3rd birthday party?

My daughter will be 3 in a short time and we're going to have a little party for her friends. They are a bit too little to be playing a lot of organised party games at the moment so any ideas will be welcome. Also we're not sure about having the party at home or going to the forest and having a woodland picnic party.

  • Why didn't they change Willy Wonka's accent on the film (new version)?

The factory is supposed to be in England and Charlie and his family have English accents and Willy's dad too, so why has Will Wonka got an American accent? I have sat through this film too many times with my daughter and get distracted in case you're wondering! lol

  • i had a strange dream last night about swimming in the sea collecting shellfish, any ideas?

It was really strange, I was swimming with a group of women, who I don't know of all different ages. We were collecting shellfish off the rocks and then swam back to a building where there was a changing room with men and women. Everyone was getting ready and I had a shower but couldn't get some shells and sand out of my hair. I tried using shampoo but was there for ages getting it out. Finally everyone left apart from me and two men, one I don't know and one was my boyfriend, they were talking together.Any ideas about this dream as it was quite strange? Generally my dreams are really wacky and mixed up but this one was like a film/story.

  • Any ideas for finger food for my baby's 1st birthday party?

My little daughter will turn one year old on the 12th. We're already starting to plan her birthday party and I would like to know if anyone has any ideas for finger food for her. We'll have snacks and things for the older kids and adults but I thought it would be nice to have some things for my daughter and her 'friends' who are around the same age to eat.

Also if anyone has any ideas or experiences to share that would be great as we're open to anything new

  • A couple of questions about my 7 month old and feeding?

First of all I have a 7 1/2 month old daughter who used to sleep through the night until last month, my question is that when she wakes up I give her a feed and then she goes back to sleep. I breast feed her only a couple of times a day now, one of them is her night feed. Is it ok that she still has a feed at night or should I try to give her some water and then get her back to sleep?

Also she has got 5 teeth and these are a bit of a problem as I would like to try her with some finger foods but because of her teeth she just takes a big bite and then chokes as she doesn't know how to chew yet. The things is that I was going to wait to give her finger food but she's always trying to grab food and put it in her mouth.

Finally. Am I feeding her correctly? When she wakes up (8.30ish) she has some milk, then about 10.30/11 she has some cereal. At 2 she has her veg/chicken and at 6ish has fruit, then at 9ish some milk. Am I feeding her ok? And any advice? She drinks water too as it's

  • At what age do babies start talking?

I have a 7 month ago daughter and last month she had a 'talkative' day and said 'pa-pa' and 'wow-wow' (that's the dog!) on the same day. Then a couple of weeks ago she said 'ma-ma' (which puts me well down the list lol) but since then hasn't said anything.

I wondered if this was normal and what age do babies start to say things a lot?

Also I speak to my daughter in English, my husband in Spanish and at the nursery they speak in Catalan to her, will this slow her development down? Has anyone any experience on speaking several languages with their baby and do you have any advice?

  • Any advice for sleepless nights and teething and a cold AND a cough for my 7 month old daughter?

The poor little thing is waking up every two to three hours at night and getting really upset. She has always been a good sleeper and slept through the night, even when her bottom two teeth were coming through. But, for a couple of weeks now she's had a cough ( we went to the peadriatrican and she gave us some drops to help clear her throat, but only for 2 days, and explained that the mucus was in her throat not chest but to keep an eye on her) she also has a runny nose, she started nursery when she was 4 months (just the afternoons) and since then has had 3 colds! I suppose that this is normal. Anyway, now her top teeth are coming through and I think that everything is just getting her down. She has her routine through the day and at night wakes up about 2am and every couple of hours after. Sometimes she just wants nursing back to sleep and others I have to walk up an down singing for about an hour to get her calm again. She'll sleep on my shoulder, but wakes up when I put her down.

  • Any ideas on how to do my hair tomorrow for a wedding?

I have medium length straight hair, it can't be anything too difficult cos I'm not very good at complicated hairstyles (and also I have a seven month old baby who demands a lot of time lol)

  • Should I try to stop my baby daughter from sucking her thumb?

She's almost 6 months old and when she's tired she puts her thumb in her mouth. I take it out when she's sleeping but later in the night if she wakes or snuffles about she puts it back in. She's teething at the moment and sometimes makes her thumb red as her two teeth are quite sharp. The thing is my MIL is always telling me that she'll have problems with her teeth when she gets older (she always knows someone that has had the same problem as the the one she explaining!) I know that I shouldn't pay too much attention, but I'm worried that in the future it'll be hard to stop her from sucking her thumb. We tried giving her a dummy but she's not interested, she'll play with the dummy for a while biting it and then throw it away and put her thumb in her mouth. Any advice would be great thanks.

  • What was the music on that old Hamlet cigar advert? And what was your favourite old avdertisement?

and wasn't it funny how they used to advertise people smoking cigars and stuff? I also used to like that one where they were in the lighthouse singing, I think it was for cup-a-soup, but I could be wrong.

  • Can I save some pureed fruit with milk to use tomorrow for my five and a half month old daughter?

We were given one of those steam cooker/puree machine things as a present and today I decided to make some banana and apple puree for my daughter, it was a bit thick so as I breastfeed I expressed a little of my milk in there which made it nice and sweet as well ( the convenience of breastfeeding lol) anyway my daughter loved it but has fallen asleep. Can I put the rest in a container to use tomorrow as I was a bit over enthusiastic and made quite a lot and it seems such a waste to throw it away. Also if you have any good recipes for fruit combinations that would be nice. I was recommended apple/pear/banana with a sqeeze of orange juice.

  • Any advice for my baby with her cold and teething?

My baby daughter is five months old and last week started teething, she has two teeth coming through at the bottom! (very exciting!) The problem is that for the last two weeks she's had a runny nose. I spoke to her peadriatrician last week and she said that this is normal when teething and to buy one of those vacum things to clear her nose and give her a spoonful of water before her feed to clear her throat. The problem is that for the past three days she's become worse and every morning when she wakes up she's covered with mucus and can't breath very well it breaks my heart to see her like that and I have to clean and clear her nose before she feeds as she can't feed very well if not. Apart from that she's a happy baby and sleeps 12 hours a night and has a nap in the morning and afternoon. I have an appointment on Tuesday as she has to have her 5 month check up, but obviously if she gets a temperature I'll take her to the doctors/hospital sooner. But I'd really welcome some advice.

  • I need some advice on my 4 1/2 month old baby.?

My little girl is 4 and half months and recently has started dribbling a lot. Also when she is sick after a feed it's sometimes transparent. Could she be teething? Her doctor says that her gums look like she could cut her teeth any moment, what is the normal age for this? I don't feel anything on the gums just yet.

Also I breastfeed her but once a day she has a bottle of formula (when I'm working and she's at nursery) and last week we started to give her baby cereal once a day which she eats no problem.

I noticed that in the morning she has a lot of wind and has heavy breathing when I'm feeding and she has a cough (not a chesty cough), although she doesn't snore at night. I'm not sure if the reason she's like this is beacuse she has bogies or trapped wind.

Any advice would be really helpful as being a new mummuy I always have doubts, I have her five month appointment in a couple of weeks and plan on saying to her doctor, but other people's experience is always good to hear.

  • My baby seems to be always eating. Is she getting enough?

My daught will be 4 months old next week and at the moment she wants to eat all the time. I breast feed and she eats at 8am and then wants to eat again an hour later. Yesterday I had to feed her every hour and half. She started like this last week and I'm worried that she may not be getting enough. She was a small baby when she was born (5.5 pounds) and now weighs 14.3. Any advice would be great as she starts nursery this week and I'm worried about how much food to leave her.

  • What pureed fruit can i give to my 3 1/2 month old daughter?

I was told that when my baby's 4 months I can start her on cereals and prueed fruit. I breastfeed at the moment but was told that rather than cereals to give fruit. I know that banana is ok, but what other fruits can I give as I'd rather give her fresh than the jars.
