  • State taxes active duty?

Hello, my husband and I are having a tax dilemma. We are both on active duty, yet my home of record does not have state income tax, while his, New Jersey, does. However, for tax filing purposes, he would be considered a non resident. However, at H&R Block they told us that if we did not pay NJ taxes, we needed to pay California taxes, as we are stationed there. I contested that as we do not make any wages in California, and I feel that, from what I read that he is still a New Jersey resident with the exception of tax time. I just need clear guidance for someone experienced in this type of situation. Do we still need to pay New Jersey taxes as residents? If so, as a non resident do my wages need to be added? If not, is H&R Block right? Do we need to file in California? Also, here is NJ nonresident tax law

.aA member of the Armed Forces whose home of record (domicile) is outside of New Jersey does not become a resident of this State when assigned to a duty station here. He or she is a nonresident for income tax purposes.

If your home of record (domicile) was New Jersey when you entered the service, you remain a resident of New Jersey for income tax purposes, unless you qualify for nonresident status (see below). Your domicile does not change when you are temporarily assigned to duty in another state or country.

Military personnel who are domiciled in New Jersey, but who meet all three of the following conditions for the entire year, are considered nonresidents for income tax purposes:

You did not maintain a permanent home in New Jersey; and

You did maintain a permanent home outside of New Jersey; and

You did not spend more than 30 days in New Jersey during the taxable year.

If you are a member of the Armed Forces whose home of record (domicile) is New Jersey, you are not considered to be maintaining a permanent home outside of New Jersey if you are residing aboard ship, in barracks, billets, or bachelor officer quarters. However, if you pay for and maintain,

During the marriage, I changed my tax filing status to married filing single, claiming 0 for my witholding, and upon my divorce changed it back to single claiming 0. What will my return look like? • US Navy Marine Mammal Program?

hi i'm an active duty FC2 in the navy, and i'm up for orders pretty soon here. I just saw a special on this program on the Jack Hanna show, and I would love to do something like this. Does anyone know what the billets are for working with them, like what rank and rate one needs to be to work with this program; are there even jobs open to enlisted Navy personnel at this command? Here's the link! http://www.spawar.navy.mil/sandiego/technology/mam...

  • Navy Galley/ Military Messhalls?

As a sailor, i always understood that if you show your les any any military mess hall and you are receiving a meal deduction, you are authorized to eat there free. However lately i've encountered galleys/mess halls what will not let servicemembers eat unless you show orders to that base...Is there any instruction on this, i've called a couple of galleys in the virginia area where im stationed an while the staff acknowledges this "rule", no one can seem to show me the instruction where this is authorized.

  • Silence of the Leg O' Lamb marinade?

I'm making Alton Brown's Silence of the Leg O' Lamb for easter this year, but since I don't have a grill, I was going to bake it. Because of this, I need an overnight marinade, which this recipe doesn't call for, I was thinking of freelancing one, but i dont want to creat anything that will detract from the flavors of the recipe, all the reviews about it have said its amazing, and will turn a nonbeliever into a lamb eater! :). How should I marinade my meat, using Alton's recipe for the paste, so i can ipart its rich flavor, and moisture, throughout?

Silence of the Leg O' Lamb

    Recipe courtesy Alton Brown

    .Prep Time:45 minInactive Prep Time:--Cook Time:1 hr 0 minLevel:

    --Serves:

    6 servings.Ingredients

•1 sirloin end leg of lamb, boned, and trussed

    Paste:

    •4 cloves garlic

    •8 fresh mint leaves

    •1 tablespoon brown sugar

    •1 tablespoon kosher salt

    •2 teaspoons black pepper

•5 tablespoons strong mustard, such as Dijon

    •2 tablespoons canola oil

    •2 sprigs fresh rosemary

    Directions

Roughly chop the garlic cloves in the food processor. Add the mint and repeat. Add the brown sugar, salt, pepper, mustard, and oil and blend to a paste. Spread the paste evenly on the meat side of the roast. Roll the leg into a roast shape and tie with cotton butcher's twine. Fire 2 quarts (1 chimney's worth) of charcoal (natural chunk is best). When charcoal is lightly covered with gray ash, split the coals into 2 piles and move them to the far sides of the cooker. Close the lid and allow the grate to heat. Then, place the lamb, skin side up, on the middle of the hot grate. Add the rosemary sprigs to the charcoal briquettes and close the lid and grill. After 20 minutes, flip the roast and rotate it 180 degrees. Insert the probe thermometer into the roast and continue to grill until it reaches an internal temperature of 135 degrees, about 25 to 30 minutes. Remove the roast at 135 degrees. Remove the butcher's twine from the roast. Cover with foil and rest it for 15 minutes before serving.

  • Breast Cancer testing for active duty navy?

Hi, as my question states, i'm active duty in the United States Navy. I also have a strong family history of breast cancer, my mother is in qoremission from it, and her mother, my grandmother, passed away from it. I believe that I may be a carrier of the BRCA 1 or 2 gene, and I want to know if tricare will cover the cost of that test, given my history, and will they pay for the preventative measures against it, ie a masectomy, or a salpingo-oopherectomy (having my ovaries and fallopian tubes removed)

  • Quinceanera dress instead of wedding gown?

I'm not getting married anytime soon, but as my best friend is, i have inadvertently started looking for myself :). Is it a faux paux to wear a white Quinceanera gown instead of a wedding one? The majority of Quince gowns are just huge, beautiful cinderella esque dresses, a nipped in basque waist with a huge skirt... there are wedding dresses like that, but they either are A, not as full, or B cost double the price. Will anyone be able to tell the difference? Is there really a difference? Thanks!

  • Female attire to Navy Ball?

I just had a question, if a servicewoman is being escorted by a uniformed serviceman to the Navy Ball, or any military ball for that matter, is it appropriate for the female to then wear a ballgown? The uniform regulations for my paygrade (e1-e6) call for dinner dress whites with miniature medals, but it has been mentioned to me by a few females, that it is appropriate to wear a gown....I hope Mrs.JVB answers, she's my resource for all things Navy when i'm on liberty :)

  • Natural remedies for out of control PCOS?

hello, i've had PCOS since I was 15 years old, i'm 20 now. I've done everything the doctors said to alleviate it, I lost weight (from being obese at 225 to healthy for being 5 7 at 150). I've taken many types of oral contraceptives (all to no avail, i would continue bleeding, and they didnt lead to ovulation, which is what I want). I wont have a period for up to 5 months, and when I do get one, it last anywhere from a month to 6 months, my last cycle started thanksgiving and didnt stop until april. What finally stopped it was femaprin, (a natural pill made of vitex and b6), 4 days after taking it my period stopped. since then I had 1 normal 4 day period in april, and since then I had not had a period again. I stopped taking femaprin in the beginning of august, by the 10th I was bleeding again, and I am still bleeding today. Is there anything I can do to make my body ovulate naturally. Femaprin worked than one time, but I want something that will regulate my body consistently. About my pcos- my fsh/lh levels are actually normal, i'm not sure about my estrogen levels though. Thanks everyone for your help!

From what she"s told me, she"s not involved with the father anymore, and she has no one to leave her child with while on deployment (her parents have a file with cps, and the rest of her family has opted not to help her). She refuses to consider adoption, but she wants to stay in the Navy. How can she be an active duty sailor and an active duty mother?
