  • What should I look out for when buying from a used dealership?

I'm looking to buy a used car and have never talked to a salesperson before. Not at a used car dealership and I hear about the tricks they can pull. I'm tight on money and want to spend it wisely. Please help with some advice? Thank you!

Also, after buying the car, what else do I look forward to in terms of what I need for the car before I can just take it home. (explain registration, titles etc if any apply?)

  • I would like some feedback on my essay please! (Miss Brill)?

My assignment is pretty much done, I just want to improve it more before I hand it in. Little things such as 'This sentence sounds a little off' or 'what do you mean?' will help!

Also the teacher said that we are supposed to get rid of the 'readers' in the story and focus on what the author was trying to tell through the story. I don't think I have ever written an essay in such a way, could someone please explain in a simple way of how to accomplish this? I'm also trying to whittle it down to 4 pages which I THINK was the maximum. (I know for sure it is the min). So if you say expand on something, also ad what you think I should minimize?

All noted pages are from: An Introduction to Fiction (eleventh edition) by X.J. Kennedy and Dana Gioia

Since we are only using one book as a reference, the teacher said it was fine to just add the page numbers (APA format).

    Miss Brill

Through the carefully selected diction and point of view, Katherine Mansfield creates an impressive journey in the character of Miss Brill on how human relationships are important to our mental health. Each sentence has such meaning hiding details from a first glance. This author has decided to tell Miss Brills’ story in a limited third person omniscient point of view. Because of this, Miss Brill’s true emotional state is concealed from the reader. Miss Brill is her own narrator, not speaking or thinking in first person at all throughout the story. Perhaps this is because she is focusing everything outward to distract herself from the problems inward. As the story progresses, she tells the story of what is happening around her like a narrator would, limited in only outward observations with little to no reference to herself. We see with some irony how we comprehend what is going on around her differently than she does. By reading how she sees herself and the world versus how outsiders view her, we begin to draw our own conclusions.

We first start with the setting: “Although it was so brilliantly fine – the blue sky powdered with gold and great spots of light like white wine splashed over the Jardins Publiques” (86) tells us Miss Brill is in Jardins Publiques carefully watching, and eavesdropping into other people’s lives. This is not the first time she has been to the park, nor fancied herself in this intrusive hobby of hers. Miss Brill had noticed that the conductor was wearing a new coat, a hint that she has been keeping track of details every time she goes to the park. The weather is becoming colder as Miss Brill takes out her necklet and lovingly brush it up into presenting condition. She takes extra care, noting all the little details of her fur piece as well as what surrounds her.

It is evident that she is well learned through her descriptions of the world around her. “She had a queer, she feeling at telling her English pupils how she spent her Sunday afternoons.” (88) So we know now that Miss Brill is an English teacher, a respectable job pushing up the years we assume her to be. She had mentioned she was not comfortable talking to her pupils about how she spends her Sunday afternoons. Could this be because of an age gap? We have been given more clues about her age. Her name ‘Miss Brill’, as well stated in the title, is a formal way of addressing a woman. ‘Miss’ is only given to women who are single, but with her choice of fashion-the necklet-many would assume she is an older woman past her prime. The name ‘Brill’ would make you think of ‘brittle’ or ‘fragile’ would it not? This could be a connection to her frail state of mind or even her physical strength. “She felt a tingling in her hands and arms, but that came from walking, she supposed” (87) tells us this plainly, except Miss Brill brushes it off quickly. Miss Brill is hiding much more about her in her name than we may think.

The name’s implication is just the tip of the ice berg in showing us more about her personality. We read through Miss Brills’ description that she creates a livelier world out of her usual mundane surroundings. She has substituted her own life for living through others as if in a real life drama. The way Miss Brill describes the story, she brushes away all hints of sadness quickly, not giving them time to sink in or give meaning. She began with how blissfully happy she was, pushing away all sad thoughts such as “a tingling in her hands and arms” from walking and “when she breathed, something light and sad-no, not sad exactly-something gentle seemed to move in her bosom”. As you read her words and attention to what is around her, she does her best to enjoy the little things in life. She tries to pick details out that would create a connection to her and strangers around her such as the woman in the ermine toque (88) and the observers watching the band play with her (89). It is a far cry to assume they would create the same silent relationship based on this; shows how desperate she wants a bond with another hu

  • Accounting Homework Question Help.?

So I have been working on this problem for hours and just can't seem to figure out how to get the Work in Progress (Beginning of the Year)! I have managed most of the problem and am at a loss on how to find the info in my book as well. Help would be greatly appreciated. Also please explain how you got the answer so I may learn as well. =)

Selected account balances for the year ended December 31 are provided below for Superior Company:

    Selling and administrative salaries $110,000

    Purchases of raw materials $290,000

    Direct labor ?

    Advertising expense $80,000

    Manufacturing overhead $270,000

    Sales commissions $50,000

Inventory balances at the beginning and end of the year were as follows:

Beginning of Year - End of Year

    Raw materials $40,000 - $10,000

    Work in process $? - $35,000

    Finished goods $50,000 - $?

The total manufacturing costs for the year were $683,000; the goods available for sale totaled $740,000; and the cost of goods sold totaled $660,000.

Requirement: Prepare a schedule of cost of goods manufactured.

I have everything else but the cost of goods manufactured

Please note that I am not trying to 'cheat' on homework. I really DO want to learn how to figure this out! (I'm surprised how interested I am in accounting.)

    Thank you for your time!

  • Searching for some good comedians.?

Comedians that I love are: Jeff Dunham, Gabriel Iglesias, and Russell Peters.

Any suggestions of some that aren't as famous as these but still really good?

I don't care much for Pablo Francisco and Dane Cook. They are funny sometimes but I guess I just don't agree/see things funny with some of their views on topics.

  • What are some good kid exercises (that are in a game format)?

I help out at some kid (ages range from 7-15 yrs) classes and was looking for some indoor games that will tire them out and still be a good exercise for their muscles.

Our room is not that big either so keep that in mind. Say roughly 70ft by 70ft.

    Thank you.
