I know they do not believe that any religious precept or doctrine must be accepted as true simply because some religious organization, tradition or authority says it is. Neither do they believe that all UUs should have identical beliefs.

If you are a UU, please tell me if you used to practice another religion before becoming a UU and why you switched to UUism.

At one time the term "Usonian" was proposed for US citizens to call themselves, since there isn't an appropriate word for that purpose right now.

I think it's time we came up with a term that doesn't ruffle the feathers of people from the other countries in the American continent.

Just imagine if the French hijacked the term "European" for themselves and if they opposed any other European countries from describing themselves as European also!

I personally prefer to use "US-American"...

In Esperanto we use "Usonano" since United States is "Usono".

Yesterday I saw a van that had a sticker that said "God Bless America" and in the center it showed the entire American continent, instead of the usual US flag.

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP.'

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car . At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP , look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.

If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP , you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP ..

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP ...

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP .

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP, so......... it is time for me to shut UP .!

Oh . . . one more thing:

It's the native language of the people of the state of Michoacán, in México.

For a lot of my "paisanos", Spanish is actually their second language.

I have downloaded a limited dictionary from the web, from:

To: The United Nations

Imagine a world where people from different parts of the world can understand in each other with a common second language.

This was Zamenhof's dream. a Polish doctor who in 1887 wrote a book detailing the rules of Esperanto.

Esperanto is the easiest language to learn. An estimated 2 million people around the world speak it. In today's world, many languages are becoming extinct and Esperanto could help to preserve those languages.

Esperanto will save translation costs and cut down languages barriers between nations.

An international language will be a major step to world peace.

Thus, we ask you the United Nations, to approve Esperanto as your official language and to finally make this dream a reality.

I think the traditionalists would never allow it, it's like expecting the US to switch to the metric system in the near future, just because it's logical and easier. (Quick, how many feet are in a mile?)

The number of Yahoo groups that need to have all the information on the webpage in Esperanto is growing fast!

Esperanto groups have members from countries around the world. The only language they have in common is Esperanto. Many times they don't know what the messages they receive from Yahoo are all about.

I'm willing to help make this happen by providing the necessary translations. Other discussion groups already offer it, but I would prefer to stay with Yahoo.
