  • Why are my toilets bubbling?

I have 2 full bathrooms in my house. We do not have a septic tank. We replaced our water line going in about 1 month ago and we replaced our sewage lines going out about 3 years ago. Now my toilets have started bubbling - when one is flushed the other bubbles, if we use the washing machine the toilet bubbles. Sometimes it seems like nothing else is in use and the toilet bubbles. Any idea what this could be? Everything I have read talks about emptying the septic tank but we do not have one.

  • Have you heard of donorschoose.org and have you donated?

If you've heard of donorschoose.org and made a donation - how did you choose which classroom project to support?

If you haven't heard of donorschoose.org it is a not-for-profit website that allows public school teachers to post project requests for materials and people can donate to ones that they support. When the project is funded the class makes thank you notes and the teacher publishes pictures on the site. Here is a link to two of my current projects so you can check it out!

  • How can I fix the sound on my computer?

My sound is not working on my computer - when I start it up I hear the windows music at the beginning, but after that I can't get any sounds to play on my computer. I've run the troubleshooting and checked my device manager - everything is plugged in and turned up. It worked fine just a day or two ago and now today suddenly there's no sound. I have restarted the computer and still no luck. I have the latest sound card driver. Any other ideas?

  • My sound isn't working on my computer?

My sound was working just fine the other day, now it won't work at all even though it is not muted and turned all the way up. My speakers are connected and turned up too. I tried restarting my computer and when it first turned on and that start up music plays I heard that, but I can't get any music etc on websites to play (youtube, pandora). I went to my device manager and there are no conflicts, tried to upgrade my driver but I apparently already have the most recent one. What else could it be?

  • Translating from English to Spanish?

I am a kindergarten teacher and have a little girl in my class who speaks Spanish but no English. I do not know any Spanish. According to a parent/teacher coordinator who came into my room on Friday to help out, this child speaks very proper Spanish - she called the restroom "bano" and referred to me as "maestra" (forgive any misspellings please). I need to be able to at least communicate a little bit with this child until we can get her some ELL tutoring. Here are some of the phrases I am hoping you can translate for me (and please give me an indication of how they are pronounced):

    Sit down

    In a few minutes

    look up here

    how are you?

    give this to your parents

    wait one moment

    when you get home

And anything else you might think fo that could be important for me to communicate to her? I can already tell when she needs to use the bathroom or get a drink, so at least we have those covered. She is a very sweet little girl and I feel horrible that I can't understand her questions or tell her what I need her to do.

  • Looking for an inexpensive airline to fly from Korea back to the States?

My husband is stationed over in Korea and will be coming home for Christmas! I am trying to look at flights for him, but the usual websites I use (priceline and hotwire) don't do international flights. I tried United and was quoted about $1300 and American quoted me $2400. Just wondering if there are less expensive airlines to go through and if it would be better to book way in advance like this or maybe wait until closer to the date? I know he could take a mac flight but we don't want him wasting days sitting around waiting for a place since the kids and I have limited school holidays and he only gets 2 weeks of leave anyways. Any advice for me please?

  • Must have books for a kindergarten classroom?

  • why can't I get on this website?

I am having trouble accessing a website.

    https://www.ask.army.mil/ask/

I do not use a proxy server, and I have SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. all checked under my security settings (not sure if they should all be checked or not lol) I can access most of the other military sites just fine, but every time I check this one it gives me the standard

    "The page cannot be displayed

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. "

And I refuse to believe that the site could be down ALL the time. Any advice?

  • I need advice on which teaching job to pick please?

I just graduated with a teaching degree. I had 2 interviews yesterday. School A has already called and said they want to hire me, while School B is still interviewing and won't make a decision until Friday.

Both schools are great and have lots of things to recommend them. I did my student teaching at School B (which is still interviewing) and would really like a job there and I think my interview went very well.

My dilemma is that I have to decide about School A's offer by the end of today. I can accept it and have a good job teaching at a nice school OR wait and maybe get hired by School B which I like a little better and be teaching a grade I like a little better.

But, seeing as School B is interviewing about 15 people there is the chance I wouldn't get the job at all. So do I take the job offered or wait and hope for the other school to pick me??

By the way, the schools are required to interview at least 5 people for each position, so I understand School B having to interview people other than me even though I did my student teaching with them.

  • Question about Army Emergency Leave?

My husband is in Korea and has a soldier who's wife just got put in the hospital. The state came and took his kids into custody since there was no one to care for them. He got a Red Cross message about all this and is going home on Emergency Leave. Red Cross is saying that the Army will pay for his ticket home and the unit is saying that he has to pay for it out of his own pocket.

I remembered that several years ago when my husband was deployed to Saudi that the Army paid for his flight home on Emergency Leave when our daughter was hospitalized.

I'm not sure if things have changed since then or if the unit is being lazy/not wanting to pay, but my husband is trying to find this E3 a way home without having to get a $1500 loan for the plane ticket. Anyone have any idea who pays for Emergency Leave tickets? Any regs that cover this?

  • Can we sell our house if we are out of the country?

My husband just got orders for Korea, we are considering selling our house so that the kids and I can go with him. If we haven't sold the house by our flight date would it be possible to finish all the paperwork from Korea or would one of us have to be physically present to sign the papers? We are in Oklahoma if that matters.

  • Breed Specific Legislation in Korea?

Someone told me that rottweilers are not allowed in South Korea. My husband is getting stationed there and we are debating whether the kids and I should go with him, if we can't bring our dog this would definitely be another reason to put on the "con" list. I've searched the internet for info on this, but the only thing that ever comes up in connection with dogs and South Korea is the eating of them. Can anyone confirm or deny (with source please) if there is breed specific legislation in Soth Korea, specifically against rottweilers? I am going to try to contact the vet on base in Korea, but with the holdiays and time differences it has been hard trying to get ahold of them. Thanks!

  • I am trying to install a game that requires Windows 98/95?

My son brought a game home from school that his teacher told him to play during the winter break (Math Blaster). It requires Windows 98/95 but we have Windows XP. I have installed the game successfully (or at least that's what it said). But every time I try to run the game it pops up an black screen and then the error window saying Atlas Runtime Module has experienced an error. Is there anything I can do to get this game to run on my computer or is it a lost cause?

  • Repair or just replace our hot water heater?

The pipes attached to our water heater sprang a leak and water got inside the thermostat part of the waer heater. One of them shorted out (?) and got all black and there was a weird smell in the air. Luckily we were at home and turned it off right away. However, we now need to decide whether to call someone to come fix it or if we should just replace the whole thing. I don't know any plumbers, so we'd have to find one in the phone book. Is it even possible to replace the thermostats on water heaters? What would that run us? Also, if it shorted out would that damage anything else? Basically I'm just asking opinions on whether it will be better/cheaper in the long run to just replace it? By the way, its a Kenmore electric water heater but I don't have the warranty info.

  • What was your experience of Korea like?

I am looking for people who have been stationed in Korea wither with the Army or Air Force, or their families. My husband is pcsing to Korea and I am trying to decide whether to get command sponsorship to go with him (with our 4 kids, aged 10,7,5 and 2). We also have a rottweiler (I heard rottweilers are on a list of banned dogs in Korea but have not been able to find confirmation). If my husband goes by himself his tour will likely be 12 months, if we go with him its a 2 year commitment. I'm just wondering if its better to stay here or go with him. Any advice?
