Help picking the right statistical test?
Thanks for any help you can offer. I have a real-world problem where I'd like to find the right statistical test to solve the following type of problem. I can handle the math but I don't know what test to apply.
Suppose I have already run a study that shows a statistically significant relationship between the type of computer a person uses (PC, Mac, Other) and the brand of car he drives(Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc.). I can create a table showing the observed distribution of car brands out of 100 of each type of computer user -- for example, let's say of PC users, 35 drive Fords, 20 drive Toyota, 15 drive Honda, 15 GM, and so on.
Here's the question. Suppose I then have a new subject who drives a Toyota. What statistically valid analysis can I use to determine the probability he uses each computer type? For example so that I can categorically say that, based on my data, I can predict there is a 65% chance he's a PC user, a 55% chance he's a Mac user, and so on.
I'm also posting this in the Psychology section because I know how hard Psych majors get drilled in stats. Hoping someone can help.
1 AntwortPsychologyvor 1 JahrzehntWhat does it mean exactly to be "dating" someone, semantically speaking?
"Dating" that is, as compared to "going on a date" or "seeing someone" or just "good friends" or perhaps "friends with benefits"? What exactly is the specific criteria needed to say, with confidence, that you are "dating" someone?
Additional question -- can one person be "dating" another without the feeling being mutual? I mean, let's say I think I'm "dating" this woman but she doesn't think she's "dating" me? Are we then not really dating?
Yes, I know there are many points of view -- I'm just looking for a general, overall feeling about the meaning of this very loaded expression.

... when I am totally against the reason they're there in the first place and despise the leaders who sent them there for nothing more than political gain? How can I best show support for the troops, even if I don't believe they're doing "good"?
I know it's not their fault -- they're not to blame for following the legally valid orders of wicked men.

Suppose you have a parent object with numberous child objects, and each of these has numerous child objects. What's the best way to implement this so that each child knows who its parent is, and each parent knows who all its children are?
The obvious way is with pointers and arrays, but then how would a child know which is its parent, unless you have a list of all the parents and children in some other object.

Whenever I plug my laptop into my stereo to play MP3 files, I get a low feedback hum from the power source. I can unplug the laptop to stop the hum, but then the laptop dies after a few hours.
I've tried magnetic shielding on the power cable and the audio cable, but neither seems to work. Has anyone a reliable method to get rid of this feedback?

If the only reason to disallow homosexual marriage is religious then, in a country founded on religious tolerance, that is no reason at all. You may not foist your moral insecurities on others if God is your only justification.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them"
Seems painstakingly clear to me -- no idol, no graven image, no depictions of ANY figure shall be worshipped, be it a human figure or simply two sticks stuck at right angles.
THOU SHALT NOT -- no wiggle room there, sorry.

I have a small dining room area with a low ceiling adjoining a large open area with a high ceiling. At the moment both are the same color -- off-white -- but I was thinking since it's already a small space, maybe it would be more "cozy" if the walls were a darker color, say 'rust' or 'beige', perhaps with faux finish?
Any design suggestions are welcome.
