I am a restorer – unbowed, undaunted, extremist, and eccentric. The centerpiece of my intellectual universe is Biblical primitivism, a search for the first pure truths and ordinances. I am seeking that elusive image of Christianity as it came from the mind of God. You may say it is not there; it is an illusion. I have decided to seek it anyway. You say I will not find it because I carry on my back the baggage of my own past, of the culture in which I live, of the language with which I think. Self-consciously and with as much self-awareness as possible, I have decided to try. You may say I will fail and be disillusioned. So far I have not but I have never been alone. God has provided others of like mind to be my fellow travelers. It has been a rigorous journey, but I know no other way. The search has served me well and should you come to look for me, you will find me a bit further down the same road. www.sunsetchurchofchrist.net
Is the forced closure of a bakery in Greshem Oregon a parallel to "Kristallnacht" in Nazi Germany?
A bakery in Gresham Oregon has closed under pressure by LBGT activists. Similar events have recently occurred elsewhere in the United States (New Mexico, Tennessee). Is this a scaled down version of the tactics Nazis used in 1938, to drive out Jews from the economy of Germany?
14 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 8 JahrenHow is this NOT racist?
A post a few moments ago could not see any racism in Darwin's thinking.
"At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break will then be rendered wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as at present between the ***** or Australian and the gorilla." Darwin, Charles. 1871. The Descent of Man, London: John Murray. Volume. 1. 1st edition. p 201
Does anyone else agree? I would befascinated (and disturbed) for someone to defend this......

11 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntWhat does "the day of the Lord" mean?
I am looking for various opinions on what "the day of the Lord" means. It is found in the following New Testament passages:
Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.
1 Corinthians 5:5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
2 Corinthians 1:14 (as also you have understood us in part), that we are your boast as you also are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat......
Thank you ahead of time for your thoughts
7 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntQuestion on Evolution and Racism, for Evolutionists?
In simple terms, evolution necessitates that the variations of the human species (which we incorrectly call race) will eventually lead to a change of species altogether. Darwin himself stated in "The Descent of Man" that this had already occurred between "whites" and "blacks" (yahoo deletes the words he used), with "caucasian" emerging as the superior race.
So then, this begs the question:
Who do you believe is evolutionary superior race? If you do not believe there is one, do you believe that evolution will naturally produce a superior race of humans?

16 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntChristians: What "saved" you?
I note many people talk about what happened to make them saved, but few refer to what the Bible says one must do or have to be saved. I did a quick study, and put together the list below. I think that it is clear, all are things we must have and do. If you disagree, what would you remove?
Per the Bible, you are saved by:
endurance to the end - Matthew 10:22
hearing God's word – Hebrews 11:6
belief/faith - Mark 16:16, John 3:16, Romans 10:9, Acts 16:31
knowledge of God – II Peter 1:2-3
repentance – Acts 2:38, 2 Corinthians 7:10
calling on the name of the Lord – Acts 2:21, Romans 10:13
confessing Jesus Christ as Lord – Romans 10:9, Acts 8:37
baptism – Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, I Peter 3:21
obedience – I Peter 1:22, 4:17
works – Philippians 2:12, I John 2:29
You may note that Grace, Love, etc are not here; I am only listing what the Bible says we must do to be saved, not what God has or has done. If you believe that Grace is it , do you conclude everyone is save always?
16 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntHelp - I need a recommendation for a long range wireless set up on a desk top?
I am looking for advice on how to accomplish this scenario: my office is about 8 blocks from home. I have a wireless router at my house, and no internet at the office. I want to get a wireless connection at the office from the router at home.
Is there a recommended wireless card or set-up for a desktop computer that I could use to connect my office desk-top with my wireless router at home? Right now, it is too far for a regular wireless, at least, my laptop will not detect it......
Will I need to boost the router also/instead?
Thanks!

Good morning all. Serious question about church names, I have always been a bit confused about the "First" that is found on many protestant church names. Such as:
First Baptist
First Methodist
First Christian
etc, etc, etc
My question is twofold:
First, What is the purpose of the title? What does it mean?
Second, if you are at a church that has this in the name, how do you feel about it, in light of Mt 20:16 "So the last shall be first, and the first last"
Thanks for your toughts, have a great day
6 AntwortenReligion & Spiritualityvor 1 JahrzehntQuestion for atheists: Would you rethink your position if:?
.....some personal or scientific discover caused you to doubt (atheistic) evolution as a possible origin of life? I was reviewing notes on Francis Crick and his changes in outlook on life (potentially) as a result of his work on the double helix (I do not want to debate the nature of his beliefs), I note he did not turn to a theistic/deistic outlook, but turned to paspermia (life from outer space). The question is if you were confronted with some irresolvable fact that the origin of man is not what you believed, would you pursue a spiritual answer, or seek out a new ideology, as it appears Mr. Crick did?
