I am a graphic designer in San Jose, CA. I take kickboxing and jiu-jitsu classes, I like doing almost anything outdoors, listening to reggae, and watching movies. I love to eat and sleep. I think that's about it for right now :)

  • Graphic Designers- How would you handle this situation?

I sell wedding invitations that I designed on Zazzle, which I personalize with the couple's names, date, and colors for a $30 design fee. If the couple wants the same art placed on other items on Zazzle (like matching RSVPs, labels, magnets, etc), I'll set those up for no additional charge since I'm going to make my real money when they order the printing. This process has worked great for about 3 years now.

I have had several times where the couple requested the artwork for things like their website, custom glassware, even cakes, and I have either charged reasonably for the art or just provided it directly to the vendor. However, I now have a couple that wants to give my artwork to another designer to design and print their invitation! I'm a little upset since they already purchased Save the Dates from me, and they know that I design invitations as part of my living. They have given my contact info directly to the other designer, who is now directly asking me for art. I've never been in this situation before .

What would you guys do? Flat out tell them "No", or release the artwork but charge a fee? If you think I should charge a fee, how much do you think is appropriate?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

  • Has anyone used the Kittywalk Cozy Climber and had problems getting it to work on your door?

It's an over-the-door climber for cats. I was given this one:

    http://www.kittywalksystems.com/climber_green.asp

The door you put it on needs to be closed, but in my house the only side it fits on faces enclosed areas, such as the bedroom or the walk-in closet. I need to mount it on the other side of the door, facing open areas, but the top hits the door jamb, so the door cannot close.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you get it to work?

    Thanks!

  • For Graphic Designers- If you are interviewing for a job, is a hard copy portfolio still required?

Most job listings ask for your resume and a web portfolio, but if you get the interview are most employers still looking for a hard copy, or is the web portfolio enough? Should you bring your own laptop to show them your web portfolio on during the interview, or have them use their own computer?

Thanks in advance for your help. It's been a long time since I went job hunting!

  • Can anyone help- I need a cgi script that will email a PDF?

I created a PDF form that has a submit button. I want the filled out form to be emailed to me (in PDF format), but if I use the "email" submit button, users filling out the form have to have Outlook or similar to send the form (it doesn't work if they only have webmail). I want everyone to be able to send me the form without having any special software, so I am going to have it upload to a folder on my server when the user presses submit instead. The problem is, I don't know how to write the CGI script that will then take that form and email it to me. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
