I'm the best at everything, including answering questions (see what i did there)

  • What should I get her?

I met this girl on holiday, I like her, have been texting her for a few weeks now. She has told me her birthday is coming up and hinted at me getting her a present. I dont know loads about her still, but I do like her, What do you think I should get her?

  • Antennas Tutorial????

Hi I have four questions I cannot complete could you help.

    1) A lossless 75(Ohm) cable feeds an antenna with an impedance of (30+j120)(Ohms). If the incident power is 10W, calculate the radiated power. The answer given is (3.54W)

2)The normalised far-field pattern of a uniform one dimensional aperture of length L is given by:

F(u)=[sin(kuL/2)]/[kuL/2] . Sketch the form of the radiation pattern.... (So could you explain the link please)?

    3) Derive an expression for the array factor of a two-element array....(Where do I start)

    4) An array of two small dipoles are arranged as shown (parallel on the z-axis, facing the positive y-direction, separated by (landa/4) each z= '+' or '-' (landa/8))

If the phase difference between the dipoles is (pi)/2, sketch the radiation pattern and indicate the location of the pattern nulls. Assume the radiation pattern of the dipoles is given by E=cos(Theta)

    (Where do I start)

If anything isn't clear please just contact me.

    Thanks

  • Reflection coefficient?

Again I have got confused here:

If an antenna has an impedance of 73 (Ohms) and it is fed by a line with an impedance of 50 (Ohms). What is the magnitude of reflected power with a given input power of 10W.

I can calculate the Reflection coefficient as 0.187 and the VSWR as 1.46.

But I dont know how to use these to calculate the Power reflected for a given input power??

  • Antennas, tutorial question?

Im stuck on this problem, I can see that this is possible but I think i need a clear explanation of what dBi means. The problem is...

An antenna has 3dB azimuth and elevation beamwidths equal to 1. Estimate the gain.

    Answer is 46dBi

No solutions are given to this so any help is appreciated

  • Antennas, tutorial question?

An antenna has a gain of 25. If the antenna transmits 300W, calculate the power density at a distance of 30km in the boresight direction. If the antenna has a first sidelobe level of -12dB (relative to the main beam) calculate the power density at a distance of 10km in the direction of the first sidelobe.

I can calculate the power density in the boresight direction as 660nW easily, its just without any information on the angle of the sidelobe, I dont see how this can be calculated, the answer given is 41.6nW but I can't achieve this... I have since become confused with this simple topic, any help is appreciated thanks

  • What would you call this shape?

The best way I can describe it is a curved rectangle.

Imagine if you had two circular sectors of the same angle but one of them had a bigger radius.

You would then subtract the area of the smaller sector from the bigger sector, what you are left with is my shape.

I don't know what to call it, can anyone help me, i'm sure it has a proper name

  • Where did the word Mercedes come from for Mercedes-Benz cars?

I'm doing a little research into the company, I know they are owned by Daimler AG which was originally founded by two pioneers in the automotive industry, Carl Benz and Gottleib Daimler. Therefore it is self-explanatory where the 'Benz' part came from. After a quick few searches I cant find any reference to the Mercedes part though. Could this just be a name that has been thought up to promote sales etc. If anyone could shed some light onto the scene for me. That would be much appreciated, Thanks

  • Ive confused myself here. Can you help? (about accuracy with numbers)?

Hi, this is purely out of interest. Ive totally confused myself:

Which of these 2 numbers is more accurate. Or are they to the same degree of accuracy.

  • Can anyone help me to understand toroid geometry?

Hi I have a few questions and cant find a great deal about it on the internet.

I just want to understand the basics about the geometry, for example how you would calculate the length of a coil of wire in a toroid shape. If for example the main radius was 30cm and the (tube) radius was 6cm.

If this is unclear please feel free to make up your own example as I am just trying to understand the method.

    Any help is great thanks

  • Has anyone ever heard of this before? (about Gas & Electricity Bills)?

Hi I am a student living in a house of 10. We moved in this year, we didn't do anything about our Gas & Electricity Suppliers, We waited for bills to get posted to us. We received 1 from 'Scottish Power' and paid it. However we then received 1 from 'N-Power', we are still in the midst of asking both companies wether they have made a mistake and trying to sort out which company is the ones supplying us with Gas & Electricity. 'N-Power' say that they are definitely supplying us but we have yet to hear from 'Scottish Power' so maybe they aren't supplying us.

Anyway my question is has anyone ever heard of something like this happening before? and

Do you know how to go about solving the problem?

    Thanks

  • Trouble with my wireless internet connection...HELP!!!?

Hi i think i know the source of the problem. Basically i originally set up an internet connection at home (Connection 1) this worked, logged on automatically etc. and everything was wonderful. I then set up another wireless internet connection (Connection 2) at my other house which then all worked fine, logged on automatically etc.

Now i have returned home to Connection 1 it wont connect automatically, the internet works fine with the ethernet cable in, i try to connect and it briefly says 'aquiring IP address' but this soon vanishes when i looked futher into the problem i ended up looking at the 'Manage wireless networks' section of 'Network and Sharing Centre'. On this page it says that Connection 2 is top of the list. I think its trying to find a connection to this network despite me being out of range. Connection 1 is right below this. when i try to change the order of them it changes back within a second. or when i try to make one of the connections a manual connection (rather than automatic) it starts connecting to connect 1 (the one i want) but again after a few moments it stops and the settings i just changed are reversed once more.

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5735

Connection 1 comes from BT (Another laptop was used to set up the network)

Connection 2 from Virgin Media (I used my laptop to originally set up the network) Unsure if this would make a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • When thinking about hyperbolic functions..?

i just need a little guidance as to how to derive the equation:

    cosh^2(x)-sinh^2(x) = 1

    only knowing that:

    1. sinh x = 1/2 (e^x - e^-x)

    2. cosh x = 1/2 (e^x + e^-x)

    3. tanh x = sinh x / cosh x

any help would be much appreciated
