Philosophically speaking, what is a word?
The technical definition indicates that it is a meaningful unit of language sounds. However, we see words represented in text, in pictographic symbols, and also in gestures for those who are deaf, and in textures (braile) for those who are blind. Could not the argument be made, then, that a word is not the "language sound" but rather that the oral word is also only a representation, like script, pictures, textures, and gestures?
What then is the word? Is it the idea, or concept? This is how we are able to translate languages, because word-symbols (whether oral, or otherwise) from differing languages hold the same meaning. It might be said, then, that a word in English is the same word as its correspondent in Greek. Is a word a unit of meaning, then?
But we have words for this: concept, or idea. These are units of meaning. It seems to me that a word is more than that. It is a conveyance, a communication between two people. Therefore, it seems to me that a word is a communication of a unit of meaning, and the various symbols we use to enact that communication are simply the various expressions that we give to that word.

1. Harmony
2. Conflict
3. Indifference
Follow up question: Should we seek to attain to the most natural or least natural state, or should we be indifferent toward what is or is not natural, and simply seek to attain to whatever state we prefer?

There is an element that has entered my dreams a bunch of time throughout my life. It's "flapping," in a manner of speaking. It comes in a lot of different ways. It might be a flying insect, like a bee or wasp, or some kind of bird, or a bat. Whatever the case, this flying animal is always "attacking" me, or coming after me, and I'm never able to ward it off, and I always end up hunching. So, the flapping from it always ends up at the back of my head, and is very loud. Invariably, I wake up thrashing and heart pounding. This happens literally every time I have this kind of dream. I'm not afraid of bats, or birds, or bees. Never have been. But every now and again, this kind of dream happens.
