  • Hungarian hand written vowel markings?

I understand that the long vowel mark (acute accent) is actually represented by a short vertical line when written by hand. When writing cursive or even hand printing, do native Hungarians carefully distinguish between the short rounded double dot (German umlaut) symbol versus the long vowel double acute accent mark?

  • Are real coins and dice really fair?

Take any coin from any country. It probably was designed to honor some national person, place, or thing. Is it not likely that the obverse "head" side has more mass than the reverse or "tail" side. If we could finely cut the coin in half along the edge, would both halves be equal? I understand that in an experiment in spinning (not flipping) the US one cent, there is a bias for tails to win. My first thought is that the Lincoln head is heavier and tends to fall down.

Concerning dice that have the spots "dug out", wouldn't the 6 have more material removed than the "1" side and therefore be ever so slightly lighter? Are the numbers put on specific faces of the die to keep it balanced?

  • Did you know that FSI is back?

In my estimation one of the best free places to go to learn many languages. It has been down for a couple of months. I looked again today and it seems to be up and running again. Check it out.

  • vector/navigation problem?

Guess I still have a fundamental problem understanding this topic.

A plane has an airspeed of 245 mph and a heading of 128.5°. The wind is blowing at a constant 45.5 mph at 38.5° from due north. Find the ground speed and true course of the plane.

The book's answers are 249 mph at 118.0° from due north.

  • Me and him went fishing.?

I don't believe anybody would say: "Me went fishing", nor would anybody say: "Him went fishing".

Why when there is the compound subject do many use the object pronouns for the subject?

  • Can anybody identify this TV/DVD series?

From time to time on television, science channel or discovery or some such, I saw bits and pieces of a series concerning the nature of the rock in an area that set the boundaries of the civilization. The nature of the rock and stone available to the Egyptians determined the type of construction. The Greeks had marble available and that led to the type of buildings they had.

When I look up rock in eBay or search, I just get music.

    Anybody know the series?

    Thanks

  • What are public schools standards for?

In Massachusetts pupils are given a standardized test from the fourth grade on. Not until the tenth grade does it "count". The tests are given in April and May and the results are not known until October. The kids who failed have already been promoted to the next grade. What's the point of (not) demonstrating standards?

I am in a single family home with a DSL connection. I have been told that someone could from the outside (the house) access my carrier and do things pretending to originate from my computer. Is that possible?
