  • iTunes deleting library and its organization, how to undo?

So I have a decently extensive iTunes music library that consists several GB of music, podcasts, and audiobooks. They are divided into categories (music, podcasts, audiobooks, movies, iTunes U, etc) BUT recently I installed some Windows 7 updates and when I rebooted my computer iTunes had a completely empty library.

Now, I don't remember if I had the option selected on iTunes (before the deletion) to *copy* the music (etc) files to my iTunes folder or if it just loads the files into my library while keeping the actual file in its original folder.

So it seems that I have the files still on my computer BUT all the playlists and ratings, etc are gone. Is there any way to recover the ratings and playlists with the files when I load them into iTunes? Because it seems when I reload them into iTunes they are completely disorganized, for instance the thousands of audiobook files are mixed in with the music in the music category (instead of being in the audiobook category and specific playlists like they should be).

Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if you need additional details at all.

  • Semi-stray cats near my apartment are being fed and are now multiplying. What to do?

    Bear with me here.

I live in an urban part of Los Angeles, CA in a 3-story apartment building. Next door to my apartment building are two abandoned houses whose backyards are used as parking for University of Southern California maintenance vehicles. Nobody lives in the houses but 5 days a week USC employees park there. I don't know if they park their vehicles then switch to USC maintenance vehicles for the day or what, but they come by these abandoned houses more than once a day.

I gather that one of their employees noticed that there are semi-feral cats (strays/abandoned) that roam the area and that person has apparently started buying cat food and placing it daily in the front yards of the houses. This has caused a few mature cats to start hanging out in the area and for shelter they live under the abandoned house (in the space between the ground and house floorboards). This seems to have been going on for a while but...

...it's Spring and for every mature cat there has popped up about 3-4 kittens. As cute as kittens are I am a bit concerned. I don't know how much cat food costs but I do know that whoever is putting out the cat food is going to have to feed a lot more cats now or these kittens might be in danger of eventually starving. I suppose it's possible that the cats could also hunt for vermin or eat out of garbage bins but I'm not that knowledgeable at how cats live in the area.

I know people who work maintenance don't exactly make a ton of money, and I would think that cat food can't be *that* cheap... plus what happens next spring or so when there are another 3x more kittens? It's my personal opinion that this is a path that cannot be sustainable.

How should I approach this? I would consider leaving a note in the area (maybe near one of the maintenance cars) at the very least making sure the person feeding the cats is fully informed of what they are doing. I'm not here to scold this person because they might already know the consequences. And I know for sure that these cats don't go home with this person and come back every day or anything like that. I doubt any of the cats are spade or neutered.

So what should I do? In a few months I might be moving and actually wouldn't mind adopting a couple of the cats. Is that an okay thing to do? Or is it better to let the cats live their little life with their families?

Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if you need more info.

  • If I want to learn how to program a website, where/how should I start?

I would like to eventually be able to program a high-quality website that would include having user content submitted to the website. What programming languages would I most likely have to learn? And what is the best, and cheapest, way to go about learning how to program these languages?

Are there good online sources that are free? What about a manual from Amazon? Should I expect to learn HTML? XML? C? C++? Javascript? Visual Basic?

  • Can Windows 7 only recognize a certain number of storage drives? If so then how can I increase that number?

I am using Windows 7 with a desktop and I have a.) my one regular hard drive within the desktop, b.) an external hard drive split into 2 partitions (2 drives), c.) two virtual drives that I use for mounting ISO images, and d.) an iPod that I hook up to my computer that is also read as an extra "mass storage drive/device".

For some reason when I hook all of this up it seems that the computer can only recognize so many of the devices. When I hook all of them up the computer disconnects one of the devices so that it does not show up in "My Computer".

Is this a power supply issue? Or a problem with Windows 7 (32 bit) recognizing that many storage devices? But it's annoying because all of the music is on my external hard drive so to sync my podcasts means both the iPod and external hard drive need to be hooked up but Windows 7 won't let me have both of those hooked up at the same time. What is going on here?

  • If I want to utilize all 4GB+ of my RAM, should I upgrade to WIndows 7 64-bit?

Title. I'm currently just using Windows 7 32 bit but unfortunately it can only utilize 2.99GB out of my 4GB DDR3 RAM (I plan on adding more later). I am tempted to upgrade to 64-bit but what other major changes will this cause?

Also, what does the x86 mean?

  • Why don't they give the old "clunkers" from the Cash for Clunkers program to poor/developing countries?

I remember hearing that they had to put some chemical into the cars' engines to make sure that they never work again, why is this? Wouldn't it make sense to give them to a poor country whose citizens could use them? Mexico is a poor place whose citizens could probably use some of the cars to help develop their country even more, for instance.

  • On wireless routers, what difference does the GHz spec have?

I have a Linksys Wireless-G **2.4GHz** router and was wondering what differences the GHz spec makes. If I want a router that can send data faster between two computers (on my network) then would one with more GHz do it faster? Or is the Mb/s stat the only spec that matters for transfer rate?

  • What is the best software to use for conference podcasting?

Essentially I want to record *high quality* audio between me and someone who has a mic with their computer but who lives in a completely different city. How do I make sure that we both have high quality audio between our connections while also being able to record both my mic and theirs?

I need a program/software that can do this, and preferably do it well. If the program is well-known then price is not really an issue.

  • Does anyone know where I can buy an extra volume control piece for the Logitech Z550?

Because the wires on mine finally became so frayed that it no longer works. The rest of the system works fine though. eBay? Craigslist? Some other website? Does Logitech have a way of buying spare parts?

  • Where can I find voting results from the 2008 Democratic Primaries among different demographics?

^Title. Basically I would like to see a breakdown of voting results between Obama, Clinton, and possibly Edwards for different demographics like low vs high income, ethnicities (I'm especially interested in this), and different age groups. Does anyone know where I could find such stats or do they not have them in the primaries? Thanks in advance.

  • Is there any place/website online where I can take and get CREDIT for a *Differential Equations* course?

Pretty simple. I go to a fairly high quality/accredited university and for the Summer I'm trying to find if any place offers an *online* course (ie distance learning) for Differential Equations. I've already taken Calc 1-3 and I want to get this class done during the summer (my local colleges don't offer it) so I'd like to see if there's anything online that I might be able to take, pass, and transfer credit/completion for. Thanks in advance.

  • My little brother who is 19 years old has had two episodes of sezures (epilepsy) during his lifetime; once...?

... once when he was only a few months old and I don't know what triggered it (I'm assuming from a blunt impact/trauma to the head but I'm not positive) and once when he was wrestling my other (older) brother and hit his head on the ground really hard (so definitely triggered by a blunt hit on the head) around the age of 10 or so.

My question is this: I have been to several raves and am wondering if it would be okay or not to bring him to a rave in a couple of weeks. We will most likely be doing ecstasy while there too. My question is whether or not the flashing lights can cause seizures for someone who has never had seizures triggered from flashing lights before....

So what do you guys think?

  • What are some good ways to "beautify" a bus stop in an urban area?

My group is in charge of coming up with ideas to improve a local bus stop. This is just a small bus stop in downtown Los Angeles that is right next to a park and we are trying to brainstorm ideas that could be possibly implemented and made a reality. Budget can be up to the tens of thousands of US dollars. Let's hear some ideas!

  • Are Parent PLUS loans adjustable rate or fixed rate?

I ask because I'm expecting some crazy inflation going on soon and hoping it will decrease the real value of my debt. Yes inflation is coming (has already been happening) and I know for a fact it will hit even harder within the next couple of years. Also exactly how is it "subsidized"? That means taxpayer money decreases its value but how so?

PS My loan is through US Bank and the Student Loan Finance Corporation.

  • Exactly what stuff can your landlord charge you from your security deposit?

Trying to figure this out. I'm just moving out and want to make sure they are not ripping me off. Here are the things that they say they are charging me for: 2 stains (on one carpet, one on linoleum kitchen floor), repainting the apartment, cleaning charges, and changing the carpet. Are they really allowed to charge me for all of these or are they just considered "wear-and-tear" that they lawfully can not deduct charges from my security deposit for?

  • Is is true that the EPA made it so you can't file class-action lawsuits against polluting factories?

EPA = Environmental Protection Agency... for those not acronymically-inclined.

Anyway I heard that in the 1970's when the EPA was created one of the first things it did was create legislation that made it impossible or legally "undoable" for groups of people to file class-action lawsuits against factories that are big polluters in their area. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I certainly have never heard of a class-action lawsuit like this ever being done and to be honest I haven't even heard of class-action lawsuits for damages against spilled oil tankers either while we're at it...

  • How does one manually change their IP address in Windows XP?

I have seen different answers and for me neither has worked. One way was going to the CMD prompt but it didn't seem to change my IP address at all. How do you know when the change has been completed?

Also I tried going to the TCP/IP thing under my LAN's "Properties" but I don't know how to pick a new IP address. I tried changing the DNS Server Address but that just made it so that I couldn't connect at all to the internet. It looks like I can change my IP address BUT **how do I manually pick a "Subnet Mask" and "Default Gateway" and how do I pick a good IP address (like the correct #s)**?

  • How come I can't connect to http://www.RonPaulForums.com but I can connect to any other site?

Seriously for some reason my internet connection just will NOT connect to this site. Every other site on basically the entire internet works but not this one. There is even a re-direct from RonPaulForums.org and it works fine until it is done with the re-direct and is trying to connect to RonPaulForums.com again. I've tried connecting using different service providers (both Time Warner and Earthlink) but both do not work. I've tried from two different browsers on my computer (IE and Firefox) and both don't work. And yet when I connect using my brother's laptop or any other computer on the planet then it works.

So why can't I connect with my own computer? Does this mean I could have an IP ban? But wouldn't this also mean that once I switch from Time Warner to Earthlink that my IP would get changed and an IP ban wouldn't work on me? I also can't think of any reason they'd ban me...

    Thoughts? Will reward best answer...

  • How to create Excel (2007) Macro to automatically update graph x-axis range maximum to current date?

I'm using Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and keep a graph that has membership (number) on the y-axis vs date (ie 10/20/2007) on the x-axis. My question is how I can get the graph to automatically read the current date and change (increase) the maximum value on the x-axis to become whatever the current date is. I'm not *that* experienced with Macros but if that's what I need to do then let me know. Thanks in advance.
