On one hand it makes things really awkward if you don't laugh. Someone says hi, you say hi back. Someone thanks you, you say you're welcome. Someone says a joke, you laugh. It's just what's expected.

But then...isn't it better to be honest?

BTW I'm not referring to a joke that's offensive or rude. Just a joke that's really lame and unfunny.

Is there a gay district like Boystown in Chicago? What are some good clubs, and how late are they open? Are the guys there hot? I'm 22 years old and live in Chicago right now, but I'm transferring to Portland State University in January so I can live in Portland. I'm of course referring to Portland Oregon.

I know several places in my town that pay employees under the table, but they're still in business. It seems like almost every small business/mom-and-pop shop place does. Also how do the employees manage to pay car loans and rent without looking suspicious paying everything in cash?

I am interviewing at H&M soon; I'm pretty sure I'd get the job since I have the experience and it's the Holiday season so they're bound to get busy. Just wondering...

How much does it pay? Is it true they pay more than minimum wage starting out?

Do they have on call shifts where you have to call an hour early to see if you're working that shift or not?

(I work at Express and it still only pays min. wage after a being there a year, and half the time I'm "on call" where I have to call an hour before my shift to see if they're even busy enough to need me.) I just want a job that pays $9+ an hour (I live in IL where min. wage is $8.25)

I am looking for something between $300-$600 that won't be super slow and won't break in a year. I will be using wireless internet & playing the sims 2.

I had a Gateway before and it kept breaking. I also can't really afford a MAC so it has to be a PC. Also how much memory and hard drive space is sufficient for the things I mentioned?

So, I desperately need a second income. I am a cocktail server at a nightclub, but I can only work weekends since that's the only time it's busy enough to need a server. I've been applying to restaurants and office jobs - anything that will give me full time hours - but jobs like that are hard to get.

The only jobs that are plentiful and would hire me immediately (which I need) are crappy retail jobs that pay minimum wage. I've worked retail since I was 17 (have probably 5 years retail experience total), and always hated it.

At 22 years old, am I too old to be working minimum wage retail? Should I just suck it up and apply to random stores at the mall as a last resort?

I only want to do it part time preferably. Do I need any degree/certificate? I've taken yoga in college, and it looks like such a chill job.

I recently got medical insurance through my Dad, and I want to make an appointment to get meds for my anxiety. I was on Clonazepam (Clonapin) a year ago while I still had insurance.

The problem is, I'm too anxious to just call the doc and set up an appointment. It's ridiculous. I have the next three days off, and I was going to look for jobs, but just asking if a place is hiring is difficult.

What can I do without medication to get over my anxiety and at least call the doctor? I know to someone who doesn't know about anxiety disorders, this comes off as an extremely menial task, but for me it's freakishly difficult.

I just want to do something that will push me to my physical and more importantly MENTAL limit, but the only thing I can think of that would do that is boot camp. I can't join the military because I have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

I'm 21, still live with my parents for financial reasons. I go to community college and work as a cocktail server at a nightclub. I'm smart, but not as smart as my 24 year old sister. She's nearly perfect in EVERY way - which I wouldn't mind - except for the fact that she loves to let everyone know how perfect she is. She was in town for a 6 week vacation (she's filthy rich so she can afford these things) and all she did was brag about how great she's doing in grad school and how much she loves her job as a teacher.

The thing is, since she is family after all, I'd LIKE to have a relationship with her, but it seems every time I make an attempt to go out with her, she either A) wants to go out with her friends instead, or B) we do hang out, go out to lunch etc., but all she does is talk about herself and put me down for still living with my parents and going to community college (fake college as she calls it).

Is it even worth it to try to bond with my sister, when she brings so much negativity to my life? On one side we are family, but on the other side, she's a pretentious b****. What side should I choose?

For example, say Urban Outfitters' website is having a deal where if you spend $50 you get free shipping. You only want one shirt that's $20, so you buy that along with $30 worth of random crap to get $50. Then you go to the Urban Outfitters physical store and return the $30 stuff that you didn't want in the first place.

Do stores allow you to do this? Would they make you pay shipping back?

Over the past months I've managed to get rid of almost all the acne on my back, which was pretty sever at one point. Problem is now I'm left with so many scars and red marks! What can I do to make them heal faster or at least not be so noticeably red? I have naturally pale skin by the way.

Any vitamins I should take or creams I can use? Does exercising help? I already plan to start tanning just to make them blend more with my skin tone.

I'm asking this in the senior citizens category because they have the best answers usually.

Also what is it like living in Portland? I am hopefully transferring to Portland State University next year.
