How do you guys feel about balancing careers and parenthood. I am all for it. I think there is no reason you cannot do both. But do you all think that parents should get special treatment, ie: extended maternity leave and being able to come back to your same position, when all the while you were gone and someone else was doing your job? I am just curious what people have to say about this. I really feel for the people who choose not to have children, yet basically miss out on some perks.

This past week I transfered to a large university. I was previously attending a community college where I received my Associates. I have already run into many problems. I took out a large student loan to pay for everything this year. However, I went to purchase my books, and they told me that I cannot use my loan money on them. I thought this was crazy, so I contacted my fanancial aid office. They told me that to use the loan on anything besides tuition, meals, and dorm expenses, I must wait for my refund check to come in the mail, which may take up to 2 months. So here is my thing. I feel like my college is sort of forcing me into credit card debt. I do have a job, but I don't make a lot of money. So, I guess my question is...is this out of the ordinary? Why should I have to get a credit card when I took out a large enough student loan to cover all of my expenses? Any advice?

I was able to make my avatar, but how do I get it to show up in yahoo answers? It shows up on my messenger and when I open my email, but not here. Any ideas? Thank you!!
