They are little sharpened metal spikes that you seal up the opening in a chicken with, or pierce potatoes with. What are they called? I'm trying to find them online.

I'm cooking for a few weeks for a man who's not too familiar with veg food. They're ok with veggie food, okay with pretty much any spices and veg, as long as the meals are hearty.

I don't tend to eat heavy/hearty meals and I'm drawing a blank beyond a veg curry or spaghetti with tomato sauce... any suggestions?

My sister's getting married in the first week of March. Me and the other BM's bought dresses a few months ago - the peeps at Bridal and Beyond told me I'd need considerable alterations as I've got a tiny upper half and gigantor hips ;) But they don't provide alteration services at the shop.

Our dresses still aren't in and there's no sign of when they will arrive. Any thoughts on how long alterations will take and is there any way to speed up getting alterations done? I want to know when I really SHOULD get worried...

Almost no fresh food in the house - I have standard pantry basics (spices, flours, oils, eggs, milk), and:

Shrimp, tofu, chickpeas, soba noodles, red lentils, cucumbers, oranges, onions, baby arugula, r&w wine, yogurt, and cheddar cheese.

Friend A is having a wedding - small, only 30-50 people. Me and Friend B are excellent cooks and as a wedding gift, Friend A asked us to make food for the wedding.

Can you think of any 'nice/classier' food that we could prep ahead and serve buffet-style? We only have a few hundred dollars to work with, so any tips would help.
