What makes diesel engines able to idle for long periods of time, but unleaded gasoline engines can't?
Why is it that a diesel truck can sit with its engine idling for extended periods of time but an unleaded gasoline engine can have problems from idling too long?
I'm just curious what makes diesel engines capable of idling for that long with no problems.

If I am stopped at a red light and an emergency vehicle comes up behind me with lights and siren activated, is it OK to pull into the intersection to clear a path for it?
Now when I say pull into the intersection, I don't mean blindly pulling in front of cross traffic without looking. I mean slowly inching outwards and to the side if possible.

Somebody told me that if you keep the gas tank at least half full it puts less wear and tear on the fuel system like the pump. Is that true?

If a person stole items, would the grand theft charges be based on the current market value of the stolen property or what the owner originally paid for it?
For example, a person steals a computer that was worth $2,000 back in 1995 but now it's only worth maybe $100 on the market.

I just wanted some people's opinions on what is a good cologne scent for a married guy in his 30's. I'm not in the bar hopping/clubbing stage anymore, and I also don't want to smell like a high school kid who drowned himself in Axe.
Just looking for some different scents to wear when my wife and I go out for our date nights.

This is a silly question, but if you could just humor me I would appreciate it. When you buy a GPS unit from a store in the UK. does it automatically come with a voice that has a British accent? Or do you have to change the settings on the unit to select the British voice?

Can Febreeze damage the water resistance of a Gore Tex jacket if applied to it? The jacket in question is a rain parka that has a musty smell and regular washing has not removed the smell completely.

I'm trying to figure out why people are upset that Obama's bus was made in Canada, when the Canadians buy a lot of GM and Ford vehicles. If they are buying our vehicles from Detroit and helping keep American auto workers employed, then surely we can buy a bus from them.
Please note that I do understand why people are angry about the 1M+ pricetag though.

8 AntwortenCurrent Eventsvor 10 JahrenWhat could cause a pulsating buzz in speakers/radio equipment that sounds like morse code?
Sometimes my car stereo speakers will emit a pulsating buzz sound for about six seconds that is rhythmic and almost sounds like a morse code pattern. I also have a scanner radio that I use to listen to police/fire departments and sometimes it will emit the exact same sound. What could cause that kind of interference with radio equipment and speakers?
I don't know if this matters or not, but I live near a military installation that has a lot of communications towers and some kind of radar. Could that do it?
2 AntwortenOther - Electronicsvor 10 JahrenShould I report a fire department vehicle being used as a daily commuter car outside its jurisdiction?
Every week I see a marked Ford Crown Victoria from a certain fire department during my commute to work. I normally see it 2-3 times per week. The fire department that it originates from is 30 miles away in a totally different county and state. I see it in Maryland and the fire department is located in Pennsylvania.
Because I see it so often and it's so far out of its jurisdiction, I think that it's being used as a daily commuter car. So my question is this: should I report it to the Board of Directors of that particular fire department? My first instinct is to just ignore it and mind my own business. However, it does seem like misuse of a vehicle and I don't think all the volunteers and community donors would appreciate it being used for personal reasons.
Same town or county would be OK. But a totally different county and state seems a little inappropriate. Thoughts?
