Lemons "cured" in a syrup or alcohol (or even, dare I say ... oil?)?
Decades ago my mother found an "old" recipe for lemons cut into wedges that were then "cured" (for lack of a better term) in a simple sugar syrup in a canning jar for some time. It was a delicious treat! She is now still with us, but not in a position to ask about the "curing" process (if that is what it was).
I've been told I'll soon come into a LOT of lemons - way too many to use normally, give away, or freshen my disposal. I want to recreate that treat before I go home for Christmas as a reminder of that earlier time. I also want to expand on it because we (kids) are now adults and we have different tastes.
Does anyone know of any recipes sounding like what I described? I would like to try variations using different sugars, herbs, spices, and liqueurs. Also, how are these used other than as a simple "treat?" Are any citrus fruits good candidates for such prepararation?

6 AntwortenCooking & Recipesvor 1 JahrzehntTreasure Coast, Florida, cycling?
I just moved to Port Saint Lucie and was wondering if anyone here can recommend some good bike shops, riding trails (paved or unpaved) or interesting places to ride. I read about L.O.S.T. and plan to do that once it cools off a little.
I am used to riding in the Florida heat (I used to get my groceries by bike in August - 22 miles round trip)
1 AntwortCyclingvor 1 JahrzehntIn Britain, what does the slang term "berk" mean?
I just heard an interview with U.S. cartoonist Berkeley Breathed, who used to go by "Berke." He said he insisted on going by Berkeley after a trip to the U.K. and got wierd looks whenever he introduced himself. It was only at the end of his trip that he was told what the slang term "berk" meant in the U.K. He stated he could not say on U.S. radio what "berk" meant. Are there any U.K. readers who can answer this for me?
