I was thinking today that Yamaha are famous for the production of motorbikes... and musical instruments! BSA were also successful in the manufacture of motorbikes, but started off producing guns (BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms).

Can you think of any other famous companies that have been successful in areas that don't seem to be related?

We look to the past, and we say "back in my day...", yet past eras are no better than the present (I'm old - so I can qualify this!). So why do we view our past through rose tinted glasses?

I befriended a lady last year who was seeing a therapist for mental health issues and I helped her to regain her self confidence.

Unfortunately, she has now "latched on" to me and I am finding her behaviour overwhelming and worrying.

I get numerous emails from her every day (often asking what I am doing, which I find intrusive) and she has managed to find my home address from the Internet and started sending me greetings cards.

She is gay and quite clearly looking for a relationship with me. I am happily married and not wanting anything other than to be a good friend to her.

How do I let her know that she is "stepping over the line" without offending her or causing her to over-react?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2010 and since recovering from the treatment I have been told (on more than one occasion) that the cancer may have been triggered by my inability to 'switch off'. I'm a workaholic as I love what I do, but as a result I can't just sit down and do nothing without feeling I'm wasting time and feeling guilty over it.

Is relaxing a human instinct? Or can we learn to do it? If so, how?

There seems to be a sign outside every jewellers, and 'stands' cropping up in every shopping centre offering to buy old and unwanted gold. But where do you go to get the best price for your unwanted gold?

I cannot think of any job that could truly be completely solitary. Even a Lighthouse Keeper has a boss he or she has to report to! Is there any job in the world that does not involve having any contact whatsoever with any other people?

It's on a taller pole and a slimmer type of camera. What does this new speed camera do?

It is a beautiful, haunting song and I would love to buy it but cannot find out who it is! Tried checking the playlist on the Radio 2 website but it is not on there. Very frustrating!

Will people find it more convenient to attend after work during the week, or would it be better to hold the event during the day at the weekend?

I have been receiving calls to my business number from a withheld number over the last couple of weeks. The caller either hangs up as soon as I answer or says nothing for about 20 seconds and then hangs up.

I usually get one or two calls a day, always at different times of the day ranging from 7.30 in the morning to 6 in the evening, including weekends.

I have started making a note of the dates and times the calls are coming in.

Can I report this to the police? Or is it considered an inconvenience I simply have to put up with as part of running a business (as my phone number is out there on the Internet and in phone books/pamphlets/flyers etc etc)?

In the current economic climate I seem to be faced with a lot of customers expecting far more for a lot less money. How do I stop them from making unrealistic demands without appearing difficult or unprofessional in their eyes?

During my life I have seen the Berlin Wall removed, it stopped being illegal to be gay in the UK, the personal computer was invented and the Internet came into use, as did the mobile phone.

For me, the invention of the digital camera has had an enormous impact, both in a positive and negative way.

So I'd like to know what has had an affect on you, and why.

I bought a plant last summer, but it did not survive the Winter (I had been warned it might not by the grower). I still have some of the chili seeds from the original plant and would like to know if it is possible for a novice to grow a chili plant in the UK.

I am drawn to some colours more than others. Why?

It seems that every toaster I have ever owned/used has to be watched like a hawk if you want just toast. If you take your eye off it for a moment it will be burnt to a crisp! Why don't manufacturers create a top setting that is just toast rather than something totally inedible and run the risk of burning your house down at the same time?!

I have studied art and been a fine art artist for a number of years and I am now looking to diversify.
